Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Indy gets her ears cleaned every week. I smartened up and decided to do it pre-walk. By the time the walk is over, she's forgotten her person attacked her, and doesn't run away every time I move. After hearing those stories, I'm glad I keep on top of it. Magic Markers are known for ear infections, and whether or not I'm helping keep that at bay, isn't the point. It's the fact that I'm there monitoring it all closely, and if anything is amiss, it's off to Doctor Hover.

I don't know many people can afford to have a lot of kids and/or pets.

One lady I think is just rich, the dog with the tracheotomy.

The other people have pet insurance which pays 90% of the costs up to a certain max per diagnosis. They have a new diagnosis with the cancer now. I’m not sure what their insurance covers but I think it’s something like $20k per diagnosis. So they might spend no more than $2000 out of pocket for the cancer diagnosis. A lot of money but just a fraction of what the bills will be.

Even though I get vet services at a 90% discount for stuff done in my own hospital, I bought pet insurance on Puppy Love. 90% coverage, $700 deductible. Just in case she needs something expensive some day that we can’t do. It costs me $34/month.

Oncologists out for the weekend? Let's hang some chemo! You people are amazing.

Not my area by any means, but I seem to remember that the CD56+ tumors like to go to the CNS where there's lots of NCAM for it to attach to...or something.

This does make me wonder about the whole issue of secretly planting cameras where workers and naked customers would be filmed. That just seems wrong, dunnit?

I didn’t read the story yet but I don’t see why it’s a big deal if both parties are consensual and she is over 18.

First of all, I think his 39 y.o. trophy girlfriend is going to start looking elsewhere.

I also have to wonder whether, because the women were allegedly sex slaves, the consequences could be more serious than your normal prostitution rap.

His bosom buddy will probably pardon him and have his record wiped clean anyway. You know, birds of a feather and all.

Police allege that some of the women were enslaved after emigrating from China and obtaining work permits.

That insinuates that there's something less than true love keeping them together. If that's the case, no big loss and I don't think that it'll be difficult to find someone else to stand at his side.

I don't see how it would make a difference in terms of his liability, other than in the unlikely event that he was privy to that knowledge - he just wanted a happy ending.

Yeah but if the police knew that and executed the sting with full knowledge that’s entrapment. Kraft will walk free and might even win a case against the police for defamation as well as the entrapment.

How was he entrapped?

Not necessarily entrapment. That's a very nuanced subject.

While I don't know if one exists, and I don't know the details of Kraft's actions, I can envision a separate, general intent law that makes it illegal to trade money for sex with an enslaved person. A law with harsher penalties. One wouldn't need to know the enslaved person's status. Think "statutory ****" laws. Pleading ignorance of the fact of the person's age is no defense. It's the act of having relations with someone who is under a state's legal age of consent that is criminalized, not the specific intent to have such relations.

Again, not saying that's what happened. My legal mind is simply pondering.

I'd really be surprised if there wasn't at least a "had reason to suspect" standard.

Sounds highly plausible to my illegal mind. You can get into all kinds of ornate and elegant trouble over stuff you never thought to ask about.

Weirdness all around. Instead of removing the gals from what appears to be a nasty situation, we instead mount a camera, and go after "johns".
