Hi guys,

since a year now I have a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt and I absolutely love it. However since the beginning I had one problem: the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt handlebar fixation arm (the long one) is done in 3,5" although my handlebar is 2,5". Although I added some spacing to fill out the space it did not hold for that long. So now finally I wanted to upgrade to something better. My handlebar has 2,5" and the stem fixation screws are M6.
While searching I found the just released JRC Components Wahoo Elemnt Bike Mount but I cannot fix it, since it needs M5 Bolts. The same applies for the F3Cycling Computer Mount (I absolutely love the look of it). After asking F3Cycling if they are planning in doing something for M6, they said no. So now I am again at the start. To be honest I would prefer to have something fixed with the stem screws since having something on the handlebar just looks rubbish and with time that will not hold anymore I guess.
How did you fix your Wahoo Elemnt Bolt on the stem? Any ideas on how to solve this? I thought already to buy the F3Cycling and then to just adapt it, so that it matches my stem characteristics, but I fear I will then loose stability. If you have a third-party product/own creation, would you mind sharing your ideas please?

As far as I can tell none of the major aftermarket mount manufacturers make anything for 25.4 or 26.0 mm handlebars, so if you want the out-front mount you'll have to make do with some shims. Pretty easy to cut up some old innertubes or something for that.

A picture of your stem & h-bar would help, this way we know for sure what you have and what to recommend. It sounds like you have an older h-bar with a 25.4mm clamp area and that the Wahoo out-front mount is designed for 31.8mm. As well a 1-1/8” Aheadset system stem that has 2 to 4 front plate bolts ?, that are typically 5mm ?

I’m certain Wahoo supplies the unit with rubber shims to accommodate narrow diameter bars, as I’ve used them and they hold fine

But if you don’t like the look of the out-front unit, you can get a mount that installs on top of the stem, under the Aheadset fixing bolt and cap. Just do a search on Amazon for Wahoo Stem Mount. I saw a few models.

You can also use the Out-front mount and turn it 180 deg. so that the mount is on top of the stem. I do this on my mountain bikes. Or use the supplied Wahoo stem mount that can install on a bar or stem using zip-ties.

+1 to what ksryder said above. I cut up an old innertube and used some electrical tape to build up a base on my handlebars and fixed the out front mount to it. So far so good.

You just need a shim to make up the difference. I have had my Bolt mounted on my ‘92 Cinelli bars for two years with no problems. On the stem I would think it is harder to see.

Hey, sorry guys for that short answer, but due to the forum limitations I can only make 5 replies a day and editing a reply is not possible.

Until now my Wahoo handlebar fixation mount is fixed using rubber, but due to the heat and the shaking from the road it always gets off. Therefore I searched for something better. Maybe I need to change the rubber. Thanks for all your help guys!

You need a thicker shim. 2 of my bikes have similar mounts (Garmin, but functionally identical) on 25.4mm width bars and stay put.

Ok I remeasured it now to have it correctly. My handlebar has a 26mm diameter. I saw also now the shims. I just have a question on that: do you get any scratches using aluminium shims? I hate scratches on the bike :)

I guess this is the advantage of 30 seasons of cycling as I’ve a tool box full of leftover parts, shims, etc.... for cobbling together computer and lighting mounts.
