I think it's just the way it's painted, not actually cut apart.

I'm more interested in the derailleur hanger. It looks quite long to me.

It does to me too and presumably the original one broke or was cut off the dropout.

It's a simplex rear derailleur. So, unless it originally came with a Simplex DO hanger, that is a claw hanger. It doesn't look like a typical claw hanger, though. It does look odd. Something like this one. It has a long claw on it.

I had only cheap bikes before the mid 70s and assumed anything with a forged dropout would have had an integrated hanger. Thanks.

First photo is the old setup, with 50 tooth ring, second photo is current setup with 53/39 rings. Debating putting some red bar tape on but don't want to have to buy another saddle (this stock one is really comfy and agrees with my rear end), what do y'all think? When I change the brake/gear cables might swap for red outers so the tape would have company.

The angles/rotation on the bars looks wrong. The flats should be horizontal with the ground. Its like the shifters are mounted too low on the bars themselves

From the photo it appears you're right, but I just went to check them out and the bottom of the tops is completely flat & the shifter's location had indicators painted on the bars so when the bars were installed the shifters went right where the bars indicated them to go. O.o

Put the bars and levers where you like them most - don't pay attention to anyone's opinion unless they're fitting you.

I reckon black tape looks best because it makes the levers look part of the bars, but there's a type of tape that just has colour on the drops, fading to black. That's the best way to put some colour on the bars, IMO. Can't remember what the tape's called but I think someone posted it somewhere here in the last few days.

Move never seen a rear down tube shifter flush with the down tube in lowest rear gear like that. For me it’s always been a bit past perpendicular to the tube. Lots of cable travel! I like the bike

My winter beater CAAD10, promoted to general use since my normal race bike is out of action due to crash damage. I actually think it looks decent.
