Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Here's my latest build for appraisal. 28 year old ti frame, new Columbus Max fork, NOS shifters and triple 3×10 crankset, ti seat post and 3ttt gunmetal cockpit, modern wide Archetype rims , 30c tyres and Merckx bottle cages.

An almost monochrome whole Ti bike with almost monochrome staging. Interesting.

Here's a random PSA. Take it for what you think it's worth. One of the posters in this thread(and bike) was doing a gravely(Monster Cross) race Sunday morning relativley close to me, so I went out to spectate. I stood in a corner watching racers go by. Just my opinion, but if you want your bike/kit to stand out, light and bright beats dark and dull every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Light print/graphics on dark backgrounds are read easily, but are not exciting. Bright reds, blues, oranges, yellows, etc, even white are much better than the greys, charcoals and blacks. I even saw a couple of the oily spot frames come through. They don't stand out in a crowd as bikes are rolling past. The worst offenders are the dark/dark color combos. When the BF rider came by, I recognized his team letters and he resembles a couple of actors when they were at similar ages. At a glance, I had touble making out the bike brand. Same for the kits. Get yourself some colors. About the only thing that stands out on a dark kit is the colored accessories with it.
Look at these 2 pics for example: The dude in front in the black, meh. The only things that jump out are the gloves, helmet and water bottle. He also has the dreaded White Man's disease. Maybe he should see a doctor. The rest of the group behind him though, they're all looking sharp. BTW, the temp when the pics were taken was in the low 30s. The rider in the hot pink is super tough/hardcore!

Not sure what other colors I could run on that bike. I picked purple to be different, my second choice would be coffee, but that’s still kind of dark.

Don't wear black clothes.

Back in the days when I was shooting a lot of sports, the worst color uniforms to photograph were those that were predominately black.

I think that bike was a gift, so nothing you can do about it. I had trouble making out the Trek logo. A couple more came by like that with the same color but a slightly lighter logo. I had trouble with those also. What I'm saying to the people out there is, if you have a choice, stay away from the dark stuff. That team mate(is that 1 word or 2) that came behind you seems like had a lot more green on. So, do you want to know the 2 actors I think you bear a resemblance to? It could be good, it could be bad. Maybe I'll send you a PM.

I was surprised when those oily, iridescent frames came through how dull they are in person. Staged here in this thread, they look sharp. In person, going by with other bikes, meh. I think the coolest frame I saw was a mid green fade to lighter color All City. That and some mid blue frames/kits really stood out. A couple of fat tired E bikes stood out for the wrong reasons also. There was a big guy on a single speed a few minutes in front of you. Lots of porn staches and Special Ops bro beards.

2023 Specialized Roubaix Sport

Upgrades:
Nothing really other then the pedals and computer. Nothing else needed right now. Although some nice tan side wall tires would make this bike look clean.

Actually I've since raised my bars so I could be a bit more upright when commuting.

The saddlebag is gone😁.

Thank you for the comment.

This.

I'm pretty OK with it, as well.

One question.... Is that the quick release lever on the front I see?

Put some lower profile wheels on the Crux, she’s lookin FOINE now. At least IMO. Yes, I know she’s dirty, but she’s a groad bike and groad is dirty business.

Hot or Not?

Dangit I never noticed the levers being a bit too low but I saw this comment before my ride last night and couldn't stop thinking about it. Might explain why things have always felt a little odd. Thanks!

No, I'm right - the shadows are distracting and the wheels/tires are not properly staged.
