"You have really nice calves."

Cycling has it's unintended perks as I'm sure many of you have noticed. Does this story sound familiar? I was at a bar last night and I was wearing shorts and some flip flops and as I was walking out, the woman behind me caught up to me on the stairs and told me I have really nice calves. I kinda liked that especially since she was walking next to her boyfriend. ;) <---real reason I shave my legs

This also happened to me last Sunday on my solo ride. My route took me through a busy section next to a flea market and the traffic was backed up for a mile or so. I was cautiously passing on the shoulder and came to a stop light next to a car. The male driver asked me about my ride and as the light turned green the woman passenger had to mention how good I looked. *smirk* Mind you, this was right after the woman in the minivan behind us had to yell out the window "Nice bike". Usually "nice bike" means "nice bike" but not coming from a woman with her daughter in the passenger seat. It's code... But wait, there's more. Yet again, I'm riding through town on the same ride and all of a sudden I hear "Sexy!" out of this car. *smirk*

Yes, I cycle because I like the excercise and the fact that it's a blast but I don't mind the side effects it has on women. :)

This post is worthless without pictures.... of the women!

I usually get the "chicken legs" comment. Which is why I don't wear shorts very often other than to ride.

Of course...after you turned to look, you responded, "Mom! you're embarrassing me."

Yes at times I want to give up the sport....because I'm really tired of beating away the girls with a stick. Cipollini warned me about this.

Does anyone have a copy of Right Said Fred's Greatest Hit* CD laying around. Would they admit to it?

*Yes, chosing the singular form of the word was intentional.

Imagine the fits of lust that would be inspired by standing and doing a track stand at an intersection.

My calves are so big they're called cows. (Not really, but it sounded good at the time.)

GreyGoat 06-25-05 10:50 AM

I'm too sexy for my bike... too sexy for my shorts... too sexxxxxxyyy... Right Said Fred... no I don't have a copy, might not admit if i did 8-)

GreyGoat 06-25-05 10:52 AM

now i got this song stuck on my alleged mind... I'm a cylcist you know what I mean.. and I pump my massive calves on the tarmac.. on the tarmac.. on the tarmac..

wabbit 06-25-05 11:04 AM

I remember being on the bike path once and a guy whizzed past me, and I thought: gee, who DO those calf muscles belong to? And would he like my phone number?

Of course no way I caught up to him. So: WOuld the guy on the devinci meet me at the park this friday?

Girls do notice this stuff....

So true...But i still wear shorts because of the sweat factor.. People usually once they get to know me... "man you got skinny legs"...

KirkeIsWaiting 06-25-05 11:54 AM

good thread soda.
I'm usually the woman making the cat calls-
I know the guys dig it.

my58vw 06-25-05 12:29 PM

I get the opposite... because most of the guys I work with lift weights...

You calves look like sticks...

skydive69 06-25-05 01:20 PM

Glad it works for you - I ride over 200 miles every week, and my legs look like a mounting platform for feathers.

Having said that, I was going out to my garage the other day, and a woman passerby said, "Nice legs, you must have worked really hard for those." Perhaps she has a bird fetish! :D

For some weird reason, my calves haven't developed at all... or at least not noticeably so. However, my quads have gotten pretty big. I wonder why the huge discrepancy in development? No changes in the backside muscles on my legs but my quads are ridiculously huge for someone who barely weighs 130. :p

I hear ankling a little helps develope the calves better, since it involves flexing rather than holding the foot stiff through the stroke.

Same here cryo, my quads are huge but no amount of riding/working out will make my calves grow.

I wonder if seat position and seat tube angles have anything to do with it? Until recently I was riding a mountain bike adapted for commuting. I've just recently switched to a road bike and I've noticed more burning in my hamstrings and such when I pedal. Perhaps they're finally getting a workout.

thelung 06-25-05 01:52 PM

requesting pictures of your calves.

BryanW 06-25-05 02:01 PM

This evening some aggressive little s**t threw something out of his car at me. I choose to believe it's because he was jealous of the effect my calves would have had on his girlfriend, had he had one, had she seen them - not just because he was a grade A teenage f***wit.

ke422azn 06-25-05 02:13 PM

weird, nobody ever complimented my calves but I get tons of compliments on my biceps and pectorials.

jslopez 06-25-05 03:14 PM

I got a compliment on my legs while doing some yoga the other week.

Ofcourse the wife was with me at the time so it may not ahve been the best timing...

also, standing climbing works the calves to an extreme. do some hill intervals...
