Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually, this looks exactly like the material shown in their teasers -

Same song, but sung just enough differently that they don’t have to pay the MIPS royalty. (They hope.). I suspect the Giro/MIPS lawyers are already hard at work.

I don't have a MIPs helmet, but my understanding is that it adds another layer to the helmet that mitigates some of the rotational forces that your head is subject to in some crashes. Wavecell looks like it's replacing a lot of the foam, too.

Yeah I thought the original teasers didn’t seem so open cell. How wrong I was.
I feel that this was a major fail on their marketing department. I’m all for safety but I feel as though they should have advertised it as the biggest change in cycling SAFETY in 30 years. I feel bad if there really was anyone who was holding out on buying a top end bike because of this.

No, MIPs is more of a decoupling between the helmet and your head. At least outwardly, Wavecell has more in common with the cells being employed in some of the Smith helmets, though those have MIPs in addition -

surely it’s more than a liner to keep the bugs out. If not, it’s not much of an improvement. The ad copy implies MIPS-like benefits.

Where did I imply that?

MIPs = rotational; helmets still rely on foam for the impact protection. What they're saying is that Wavecell addresses rotational forces and significantly betters the impact protection of foam.

Ahhh... But...

Direct from the Trek Ad:
Who doesn't love stickers, with stickers?!
And, for $300, I can get the Trek Stickers.

Will they throw in a FREE stickered helmet with a new bike purchase?

I didn’t catch that part! Time to throw my 1 season old Bontrager Velocis helmet in the trash. Daddy wants some coffee decals!

Yep, they copied Smith koroyd helmets which have been around for years and changed cycling forever.

Couldn't even come up with something original.

They even copied the color.

It's an order of magnitude more lame than I thought it would be.
