Trek announcing "something that will change cycling forever"

Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Here's the problem...

Here's the problem, there will always be the next best new deal-breaker to turn the industry on its head! If you waited for the next best thing, you would never buy a bike, much less ride! I bought a Trek Project One back in 2013. At the time, the new Madone with the wonky backend was about the make the scene and I wondered if I should wait or not. I didn't and today, I still love my Trek as I've never loved a bike before! Custom ordered, it still fits me to a "T" and I still put on around 3500 miles per year with racing years seeing between 6K-8K. Yes, I've tried a few new bikes but I haven't found anything I like even remotely as much and I doubt I will. Due to the tight geometry, I was almost afraid to push it much beyond 45MPH on the downhills because of some rare, tank-slappers I got into when the front wheel wasn't perfect. Even though I never went down, it is only because of experience that I didn't...but my number coming up. At 40 years of age, road-rash was just an inconvenience. At 68, it is much more serious, which is why I gave up Crits.

A few years back, I bought a brand new Specialized Pro and liked it a lot...till about mile 85 when everything began to hurt. Geometry was almost exactly that same, seat, handlebars, pedals, etc was also the same but something was different. In time, I could feel it by mile 70 and decided I'd wasted enough time with it can sold the bike, boing back to my Truck Project One. The trek is the only bike I've ever ridden that gives me a pain-free ride through mile 150, the most I've ever done in a day. The only thing I changed was to go from a noseless saddle to a Selle SMP Drakon, which fixed all my saddle issues for good! With the money I got back from selling my 11 saddle, I was able to switch to Di2, which I absolutely LOVE! Someday, in the not too distant future, I'll buy a new bike, When I do, it will be another Trek Project One in the H2 head geometry to lessen the impact of riding on my tired elbows and shoulders.

There will always be something new coming in the market but just like cars, I'll never buy a brand new model till it has proven itself and the bugs have been worked out by others with more money or time.

That’s some story. What a complex young woman!

On the helmet question, my feeling, as someone who has been involved in TBI research and patient care, is that if there were a revolutionary design to be had, football, where the ergonomic demands on a hat are considerably lower than in cycling and the data are way better, would have already deployed it. As far as I know, there’s nothing great out there for preventing the transfer of rotational forces to the brain. However, I’d love to be wrong.

My Masi 3V has 12 speeds and the whole bike didn't cost that much.

Maybe the dealer sees it as an opportunity to sell something for a better profit margin. Wouldn't be surprised...

As for Trek.."buzz marketing". Risky as, no matter what it is, the hype exceeds reality and the launch generates as much disappointment as excitement. Segway would be the the poster child for this..

Probably just a way for Trek to get millions of email addresses so they can sell them to 3rd party people.

Probably introducing a lightweight E-Bike that will look like a regular bike without any weird large battery bulges.

Whatever the case is 30 years is a long time to promise nothing new will come around for another 30 years, so that's a dead give away it's a scam.

This issue was featured on this week's GCN show. Much discussion but no definitive answers.
