Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Orleans cycling

So my wife, who grew up in NO has surprised me with a trip to celebrate my 50th in New Orleans. Question as to where to rent a decent bike and anyone know some good rides or a club to get on with for a few rides to work off the food I’m going to eat?

I can probably steer you in the right direction. When are you going to be here?

thanks Paul!

Getting in evening of April 1st and leaving on the 7th. Not sure yet how much time I’ll have but thinking of a few morning rides if possible. Not sure if there are any groups. I’ll also look on Strava I’m sure

Here are the regular rides.

New Orleans Bicycle Club - Local Training Rides

To rent a good bike, I'd check with Bayou Bicycles. Robert Driskell is the fitter there. He's a friend. If you go there, ask for him, and tell him I sent you to the best and most passionate fitter on earth. He helps in other areas of the shops. He is the only one I know there, so that's why I recommend him. The guy LOVES his job. If you are up for a casual pace ride, shoot me a PM. I'll show you one. I don't have a lot of time in the saddle since my last shoulder surgery, so I will likely move at a more sedate pace than you prefer. Let me know if you have any more questions or need any info. I'll be happy to help.

Awesome thank you so much for the advice! I'll touch base closer to the date. I'm not worried about a pleasant pace, just like to ride with like minded people!

I did some of the training races on the Lakefront in the late 80s. Met a lot of great people. Fond memories for sure. Hope you have a nice trip!
