Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I overhauled my first pair of pedals today, and I learned a lot. The second one went ten times faster than the first. Early 70s Campy. They were immaculate inside; just needing some grease. Then I went out on the porch to spend time with the dogs and got bit hard by the small one, going for the cat. Likely would have killed the cat with that bite. Dogs get rabies shots twice a year here, and I'm glad for that.

If you washed it well with soap and water, the risk of infection is low, maybe 10%. OTOH cat bites have a very high risk of infection (80%+) so those need antibiotics.

I can't imagine how someone could be so oblivious to that as to let it become a horror story, though.

At the same time, some hubs, like yours and one of mine, are too much for the interior diameter of the cassette-type, so having both is a necessary evil, it seems.
my 2015 Domane came with a 15mm front axle, so it must use the BB type lockring. Luckily there's plenty of room for it.

I immobilized my refurbed Gianni Motta and my Giant Propel that has been my main ride since 2014 and took some measurements with my trusty levels, plumb bobs, and tapes and was somewhat surprised at what I found.

The back story is that I have measurements going back to my racing days in the '80s and I have also had a professional fit in 2014 on my Propel. I've been riding my Motta lately which I set up by feel, the only real measurement being the seat height, and I feel very comfortable on it.

Oddly enough, after measuring the two bikes and despite being 30-35 years older and weighing near 75# more, my Motta conforms more to my 1980s setup measurements than my "pro-fitted" Propel. I find that pretty interesting and makes me wonder why I ever paid for a fit back in 2014.

Wow. Had no idea that a cat's mouth is filthier than their claws. Learn something every day.

Have you ever heard of Watkins PetroCarbo salve? My parents received a tin for their wedding, in 1947. The remains have come to me. We always used it to draw out poison in and under the skin. One of those puncture wounds has formed a knot in the muscle, and is sore this morning. I've applied the salve in an attempt to draw it out before it can become infected. I will report back.

I have always been leery of the "professional fit", as I am of much of this new fangled stuff.

Rain and wind here. Last month I cancelled Zwift, but it was still active until April 24th, so I was able to ride the new "Fuego Flats" expansion.

It's matzoh balls, a type of Eastern European bread dumpling like you get in Czechoslovakia. But made from ground matzoh for Passover.

OMG. Never had matzoh ball soup ????!!!?!

I don't get the boiling in water thing either, they should be simmered in chicken juice. Datlas don't do chicken though.

Pretty sure Calgary is under suicide watch today. The Avs weren't supposed to win a game, and the whole series was supposed to play out like game one.

Never had matzoh ball soup. Willing to try, though. Are they like dumplings at the Chinese places? I think I asked this before.
