Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

I especially like that idea. I get to enjoy that freedom when touring.

The rest I dont much care about. I like being clean shaven. Hate facial hair. But I do slough off exercise if the weather is bad. That we can agree on. But try my suggestion. Lunch out is a treat not to be missed. Though I must say it was responsible for some weight gain for both Mrs rpen and me. We are getting a handle on that now.
Lunch is the meal I virtually never go out to eat. I think it's because I always stayed away from hot meals for lunch to avoid post-lunch lethargy at work. I haven't changed that pattern much since retiring, but when I do it exposes another huge retirement benefit . . . you can just take a nap whenever you feel like it.

I'm not a big fan of facial hair either, but I absolutely hated having to shave daily when I worked white collar. I quickly adjusted to shaving every other day when I worked blue collar. Since retiring I've adjusted to shaving twice a week only, and occasionally only when I feel like it.

Speaking of lunch, I had a doctor visit yesterday and we talked about my weight problem as usual. I told her that I’m fixated on food and am thinking about where lunch will be while I’m eating breakfast. I wasn’t kidding.

She’s really not very helpful.

No. She did laugh, though, when I asked if we could speed things up as I was getting hungry.

I like food, but I'm not that bad. Is it possible that you've got some kind of nutritional deficiency that your body is trying to account for?

Game of what?

j/k - the last episode was great. I'm wondering if the show will be able to keep the remaining episodes from being a let-down in comparison.

Both my old doc and my new doc have tested for a few things. My old doc was shocked that I continue gain weight despite riding 6-7,000 miles a year since 1982. I may have a medical condition but I think it's more of a volume problem and I'm the first to admit it.

Dang, it was dark but that did lend atmosphere to the episode.

I certainly have/had a volume problem. Tracking my intake has been interesting over the last couple months (I enter it on my Fitbit app). I would say that a) I wasn't that bad but b) it really isn't a big difference between losing 1/2 lb per week and gaining 1/2 lb per week. For me, a little mindfulness has gone a long way; this morning I weighed in about 1 pound heavier than my lowest weight from last year and my riding season is just barely underway (last year, my lightest was in Sept or so, I think).

They certainly produce with calibrated systems in mind, and that includes taking ambient light out of the equation; I wasn't terribly surprised to see so much complaining online. Like you said, the darkness was a part of the mood, but with the right set-up, detail wasn't a problem... it's just that a lot of people just weren't viewing on a decent set-up.

Regarding retirement, this is what mine looks like this morning - Tour of Yorkshire on the laptop and Tour de Romandie on the desktop and coffee, of course.
