Here's footage of the bike in action. He seemed pretty comfortable starting out. I think even in the big cog in back, I'd try to press on that pedal and just fall over

Fixed it for you. As a confirmed roadie, bought my first MTB in 37 years of road riding. Three rides in three months and one broken rib. Sold that bastid today.

I'd have been in with a shot if both of my charity rides for this weekend hadn't been rained out by the apocalypse. Three hours on the trainer today, two hours tomorrow. Never signing up for spring or fall rides again before day-of.
