Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Truth. It's the wild card, the unpredictable variable.

I went to the high-pressure university in the Land of Pleasant Living and did not really enjoy it even though the educational opportunities were fantastic. It was too stressful for me to actually have much fun. Sad!
Back when I was doing undergrad I had the opportunity to finish up at Cornell and proceed to med school, but I calculated it would be a major change of the life I was currently living (essentially partying and having a good time) so I turned it down. My life and career path turned out pretty nice despite that dumbass decision, but I've often wondered what my life would have been like if I had Cornell on my resume instead of the HBCU institution I finally finished from. Maybe it could have been better, but it could have been worse. The thing is you can never know because there is too much that happens in between.

So I'm of the opinion that you share your thoughts and preferences with the child but let them make their own decision. All possible outcomes are still available, but with the added bonus that it was their own decision that decided their own future.

So I have not yet been to Aldi's, but they just opened up a new store near me, right across from Wegman's...opening day was Wednesday.

There is an interesting writeup about them on CNN....link https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2019...ces/index.html

I will have to check them out, but for now my favorites are still Wegmans and Trader Joe's.

Understood. My fear is that it may have just taken a sample somewhere and decided not to feast enough to become engorged, but instead to move on to a better location and that's when it was apprehended?

Who knows, I'm just super paranoid about those sob's now days, I'm suffering fatigue symptoms recently and can't rule out the lyme, yet the tests can't distinguish a new infection from an old infection. Makes you very guarded about preventing another illness.

Great minds think alike.

An unengorged deer tick is about the size of a pin head and flat.

Sounds like I might be good. This thing is pretty small and flat.

Some springs I get ants in my living room. Saw a few a couple of weeks ago, but they haven't been that bad this year. I was sitting on the floor watching TV. When I felt something crawling on my neck I figure it was an ant. Grabbed it with my fingers and felt it was hard. Couldn't crush it. Went to the kitchen, put it on a piece of paper towel and realized it was a tick.

Just being aware of/tracking what you eat can really highlight how out of whack food consumption is in the US (or at least what I see around me).
5-11. I mentioned the different stages simply because even if the genes, parents and all the rest are in your favor, weight can still go off the tracks before you know it. I topped out at ~215, just because I didn't pay any attention to what I ingested, and what I did. A pack of Snowballs for breakfast everyday isn't really the best start to a healthy eating program. I think I mentioned last year I raced at around 170-175, and I attributed that to weight lifting, and anything but needing to eat smaller portions. This year, 155-156 seems to be my happy spot, and that's work. Not because it's hard to eat less, but because Mrs. LAJ is intent on feeding me more and more... That does make it hard to eat less.

Bigger. Squash it and see if there is a blood explosion. If that happens you SHOULD get Post-exposure Prophylaxis. If no blood, you are in the clear.

Side note, everyone's experience is different, but I went to an elite pressure-cooker undergrad university and although there was good learning/teaching going on, in retrospect I think I would have done better and been a happier person if I had gone to a state-level university instead. Too much pressure and too many perfectionistic over-achievers in one place is not always a good thing.
Well, I hear you. But just because you go to an Ivy League school doesn’t mean you have to try hard to do well. Look at the President.

Or, more importantly, the graduation rate. The day you come in you are basically guaranteed to get a degree.

Reminds me of one of my favorite dad jokes:

What's the difference between a teacher and a locomotive??

A teacher says "spit out your gum!" and a locomotive says "Chew-chew!"

So I got my father into cycling briefly about 22 years ago. He has a mid 1990's aluminum trek with indexed 105 DT shifters. He was working in DC at the time and had a MUP-crash with a stupid runner, resulting in a pelvic fracture. He has not ridden in over 20 years. A few years ago I tuned up the bike and replaced the tires, but he did not ride it. It's still sitting in his garage. He is now 85 and unlikely to ride it. When we visited there recently he asked if I had any use for the bike, and I said no thanks but he may want to try to sell it on Craigslist. I told him to ask for $150 for it, he was very upset because he thinks the bike should be worth $500+ as he paid $1000 for it and it's in great condition.

I told him that if he had a $1000 computer from 1996 there is no way he should expect to recoup half the value in selling it. Now bikes are not computers, but I think he got the idea.

It's been so quiet here today. Only one other guy in the Philly office. Almost no work emails. No phone calls.

Need to finish packing tonight for my overnight trip tomorrow.

Yeah. Thanks. I think I mentioned earlier that I would have gone today, but there is a chance of storms out that way around the time I would likely be cooking dinner. There should be a law requiring picnic shelters at state park campgrounds.

Yep, similarly, my realtor went 11 years before she was diagnosed and still has a lot of problems. If you look at her, you’d swear she had a stroke. She still undergoes some sort of blood treatment on a regular basis.
