Keeping your ears warm when riding
Where I live, the weather is in that in-between phase where a full on skull cap isn't needed to ride. But something to protect/keep the ears warm when riding early in the morning is needed. Or at least needed for me.
Anyone have anything that works for them and still allows you to hear road noise? |
Headbands don't block road noise.
|
Neck gaiter, usually folded in half. Covers the ears but not the head, venting some heat. It's also pretty small, so if you start early or late and only need it for part of the ride, you can stow it. I use a merino wool one.

Cat ears. I got the pack that has airstreamz and ear covers. I thought the airstreams might help deflect the wind off my ears but they are really just for noise reduction, so get the ear covers. They go on and off pretty easy.
|
Headband - the same one I use outside in the winter. I adjust the helmet strap to get the helmet to fit over it.

Can't speak to how much road noise may be blocked, but looks right up your alley

A light lightweight cycling Balaclava

Basic ear warmer headband. I've got bad ears, and use one of these right up to 70F.
|
Saucony ear warmer. I have a few of em since my kids steal an.
Lightweight, doesn't overheat, keeps out the wind which is whats actually bad, and i can hear just fine. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f6c795ed19.png |
Thanks folks. That Saucony ear warmer looks like it will do the trick. Not to mention the price is right!

I don't like fleece headbands because they just seem to absorb sweat. Something similar is this- https://www.amazon.com/Pearl-iZUMi-T...557107244&s=ga teway&sprefix=ear+warmer&sr=8-75 |
I usually bring one of these when it's too cold for a cap but too warm for dedicated winter headwear, (40s-50s range). They'll keep me warm but are also very packable if it's going to warm up. Nice to have when the weather turns on you mid-ride too.
