But what's with the "lose the little black thing?" Granted, you don't *really* need the cap with Presta valves, but I replaced mine with nice metal ones. I don't see why this is a problem unless you really like the look of bare Presta valves.

When I worked in an auto tire shop, sometimes we'd find a slow leak from some dirt that got into the uncovered Schrader valve. So, from habit, I always put the cap on the Presta valve.

yup, just use your bare hand to rub the inside of the tire to find that piece of glass and leave a blood trail as you go. Geez, all you need is a small rag and let it snag on that piece of glass.

I sort of laughed when Lance said to chuck the presta caps. Sure, they are put on to keep the tube from being poked and cut by the end of the presta valve in packaging, but out of habit and the desire to keep the end of the presta valve clean, I keep mine on. I guess pros scoff at that IE why Lance told viewers to throw them away.
Some years ago I was sitting on the side of the road changing a flat, had the new tube hanging around my neck, wheel in my hands and some motorist slows down and asked me with a serious but helpful face, "did you get a flat?" I told him that no, I was replacing the factory air in the tires as it was overdue for this. It took him 10 seconds to realize that I was joking with him.

I'd have assumed he'd not changed a tube in at least 25 years. Ah, the joys of a road crew!

Anybody ever listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Lance? It was actually pretty interesting to hear Lance talk about everything. Seems like a normal dude that got caught up.

Um, I'm with him on this. Presta caps are useless and not cool...I chuck mine when a new tube goes on.
That video was actually pretty fun. Almost makes me want to bust out my LiveStrong jersey again. Almost.

The bulk of the time spent changing a tube is inspecting the tire for the source of puncture. Sometimes the tire takes some wrangling to get back on to the rim. And let's not forget pumping up the tires with my mini-pump if I'm on the road takes a minute or so. If the tire went back on easily and I did a quick cursory check of the inside like he did, and didn't have to pump up the tire I could do it in under two minutes.
