Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this a good deal?

Is this a good deal?

Hey there,

I am new to road biking and I am trying to figure out if this road bike I am looking at is a good deal. It's a 2016 Cannondale Synapse 105 5 alloy with disc brakes and I can get it for $925 CAD (~$693 USD). The owner says he has rode about 500 km on it and just doesn't ride it enough so he wants to get rid of it. I have seen the bike and it seems to be in very good condition, so just looking for some feedback on whether people think this is a good deal or not. Any feedback is appreciated.

I'd say that's a good deal, so long as it fits you.

But you did it wrong, you're supposed to buy it first, then ask

I guess the tricky thing with carbon is inspecting for cracks in the frame. Little tiny hairline cracks would actually be very hard to spot. Telling you to buy it because it's a good deal would be irresponsible. Maybe it's "a good deal" for a reason. Just saying really look it over well. And even if you do you still might not see it. Not sure I would buy carbon used. I'd buy steel used...I'd buy Ti used...not sure I'd buy carbon used unless it's someone I knew well.

If the bike is the wrong size for you, it will be a terrible deal.
