My riding partner has sore sit bones - but on the OUTSIDE

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Okay, my riding partner is my GF and she is new to cycling this year (about 550 miles so far). She is riding a 05' Schwinn Fast Back Small with a WTB saddle ... a medium quality saddle with medium cushion and a ridge down the center.

We have been to the shop 3 times to be sure her fit to the bike is as good as possible. I have her a shorter taller stem now and that helps. She has $100 Hind shorts that have a larger seemless pad ... that has made a difference with soreness in the "middle" area.

But, now she is experiencing surface pain on one of her sit bones ... basically she says it feels like a blister. We only do 80 to 110 miles per week. She wears the Hind shorts 95% of the time with nothing else on her bottom.

I have ridden for 16 yrs and have coached many new folks into the sport ... my GF being the most recent. She's doing pretty well overall.

Any ideas or thoughts on what we can try? Are there creams, powders, undergarments ... what are the various things that are good to try to fight something like this?

Try body glide or chamois creme. They are supposed to reduce friction. Also search on saddle sores. You will find a bunch of suggestions.

Your message says feels like a blister...Does she have a physical sore? If so, have her check to see if the sore matches the location of a seem in the shorts or chamois. Also, TassR700 is right. If it's a saddle sore, you'll find a ton of suggestions in recent threads.
