2019 Specialized Roubaix for 20% off or 2020 (new design) for 5% off?
Hello.. .I have a dilemma. . .looking to upgrade my 2012 Roubaix Pro Dura-ace and have the option to buy a 2019 at roughly 20% off (new old stock). The 2020 is redesigned and I like the looks of it a lot but. . .money is money.
So options look like this:
2019 Comp DI2 - 3100 (list 4200)
2020 Comp DI2 - $4150 (list 4400)
or 2019 Roubaix Expert DI2 - $4500 (list $5800)
Other than the redesign I think the Comps are very similar in equipment (DT Swiss wheels, etc). The 2019 Expert has the Roval C 38 carbon wheels.
So. . thoughts? Redesign significant enough to move to it?
Thanks!

Biased answer (because I have one): the 2019 Comp Di2.
Get the 2020 if you must have the more aerodynamic frame and seatpost, and they're worth over $1k to you. I don't think the redesign is worth that much extra, in fact the aero seatpost would be a negative for me.
Get the Expert if those wheels are worth $1,400 to you. The Comp DT Swiss wheels are fine and not very heavy, so I prefer banking the money saved to buy some deeper and wider carbon wheels as a second wheelset.

I also picked up a 2019 Roubaix Comp Di2 this spring when they were running a 20% off sale. It’s a great bike and I have no regrets.
I’ve put 1500 miles on it so far with no issues.
good luck!

I agree, save your money and go with the 2019.
If you can swing it, go with the Expert. The upgraded wheels are pretty nice. If not, the comp will be more than sufficient.

i got my 2019 Di2 Comp on sale too
I think $3300 about 4 months ago. Questions to ask are:
1. If you had an adjustable Future Shock would you ever adjust it?
2. Do you mind the look of the CGR seatpost?
3. Do you trust the new post will deal with road crap better than the new one?
4. The old seat tube was round and could take any 27.2 post. New post is D-shaped - proprietary.
5. I am truly sensitive to changes in geometry and they changed it for 2020.
6. Big decision about alloy vs carbon wheels. Think they weigh close to the same. Can you feel the aero difference? Maybe get Comp model with alloy and buy carbon when you're sure you want them.
7. Do you care about paint? Do you like what's available in 2019? Do you like the 2020 paint?

Thanks for all the input. . .my decision came down to a series of questions much like eflayer posted.
1. Future shock - I would rarely if ever adjust it.
2. Seatpost is fine for me.
3. Geometry change. . .my test rides felt a bit awkward even though we tried to get it aligned to my old bike. I am sure it could be worked out but it did feel different.
4. I prefer the 2019 paint available to the 2020.
5. Wheels - carbon look great but can always add them.
Net is that I decided on the 2019 Comp Di2. I'll probably add some carbon wheels at some point (used perhaps or on sale).

I picked up a new 2017 S-Works Boonen edition vs a 2020 pro frame for the same price. The Swat box and paint where the main reasons. I did test ride the 2020 and it felt pretty much identical. Being able to adjust the future shock was nice, but it is more of a set and forget kind of thing.
The biggest difference would be the gears. 12 speed is nice if you need the range. I would go older with better parts.

I have an old 2012 Roubaix Expert with SRAM Red... great bike, but I do like the looks of the new frame design better.
Keep the old one if you can swing it! I still use it for credit card touring and as a spare when my speedy bike is in the shop.
