Why did Titanium not take off amongst Pros?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a Moots VaMoots 2013 and must say it's the best TI I've ever had! Over years, I've owned several classic steel bikes, aluminum (the worst), carbon fiber, and titanium. I now have one bike and that is Moots, it has replace all the others, which I have sold. I bought the Moots used, had to travel the La Port Indiana, I live in Chicago and it was worth it, the fit and the cost (about a fifth of a new one)! Your Moots looks like mine, hope it ride as good, like mine!

Smooth and Agile!

Campagnolo is beautiful. Shimano is ugly. I would always get Campy tech if I could afford it. Luckily I got it on my Ti bike posted above.

As long as we're sharing photos, here's my Seven set up for randonneuring with 2014 SR.
If you're going to spend the money on a titanium frame, you might as well spend the extra couple hundred bucks on campagnolo so there is no doubt in anyone's mind that you are a true connisour.

Now over 16 years old and still going strong. The upgrade to Ultegra 6800 helped a lot. Now that I'm older and heavier I may also opt for a Wolf Tooth Road Link and a bigger cog out back.

So I can see there is a definite following of Ti for old guys that like to keep their bike for years and years.
But I do not see how that relates to why a Pro would want one for racing on.

Because their sponsoring bike companies only make mass-produced CF as their top of the range bikes.

I love Campagnolo, but it simply doesn't work as well as Shimano.

Looks. I've never used Shimano brifters, but I've heard different people claim that both perform better, so I assume they're both fine and it comes down to personal preference. I'm used to the thumb/finger thing so I would be reluctant to switch at this point. Dura Ace and Super Record are both far better than my abilities warrant anyway.

but you own both DA and SR.

You don't have to be a professional to enjoy high end components.

Arguably, 105 and Chorus respectively for each brand, offer the same functionality, albeit adding some weight. So is the enjoyment the aesthetics, or the .5 watt gain in speed?

2019 DA and SR both look like crap to me, but they work better than the most beautiful components ever made(1991 Campagnolo C-Record).

Ok.
So what properties does a Ti bike have that a Pro rider would choose it over Carbon for a race bike?

Probably none because Ti bikes can be built to suit the rider needs (just like steel, aluminium, Scandium, CF and any other material).
It is not that any material is better really, because you can get heavy, flexy, poorly handling bikes made out of any material.
You can also get lightweight, stiff, well handling bikes made out of these same materials.

None. A particular rider might like the ride better, maybe find it more comfortable on cobbles, gravel of the Giro, but very specific to THAT rider. I doubt the team would be happy mix/matching frames to that extent though.

Not hard to see a Ti meeting the weight point for UCI racing, so a wash there.

Best looking bikes in the peloton though.

Shimano's gear is the product of more engineering resources than any other brand.
