Hello all, my LBS has a 2019 Roubaix comp with ultegra di2 on sale for $3000. I'm debating between that and a 2020 Roubaix Comp with mechanical ultegra (for $3600).

Does anyone have the ultegra di2 that wants to weigh in on an opinion? Thats a pretty sweet deal on the 2019, I'm just wondering about reliability of di2 vs. mechanical, and weather the new 2020 frame might be worth getting and upgrading to di2 someday in the future.

Any thoughts?

I have Di2 on my Evo and I love it. This is my 4th year with it, problems with it yet.

That’s a great price on a great bike. I bought the same bike (Roubaix comp Di2) in April for $3500.

Based on the US website, the bikes are basically identical, save di2, stem, and seatpost. The specs are so similar, that both even have a confusing claim of using 52/36 chainrings AND 50/34 chainrings at the same time.
I would ignore the stem and seatpost changes as being anything more than a change in spec from year to year under the guise of improvement by way of marketing speak.

The 2020 model doesnt have the fuggo seatpost with an adams apple, so thats pretty cool.

Given the bikes are basically the same except for price, color, and di2- decide what of those 3 things is most important.

I have a DI2 bike. Not a specialized. However, I can tell you that I love DI2 and will have it on my bikes going forward. I think it is one of those things that if you do not have it, you have no idea what your missing but once you get it, then you will be a convert

I have Di2 on my BH G7 and I freaking LOVE it. Definitely worth the added cost for me. In fact I am so in love with the Di2 I'm trying to get Mrs. NoWhammies to think about purchasing a new bike just so she can know the joys of Di2.

I've got bikes with 105, Ultegra, Dura Ace, and Ultegra Di2. Is Di2 great? Yeah! But would it change my decision on what bike to buy? Absolutely not. They all work SO well.

The 2020 has a new, more aero frame, but the 2019, which I also bought in April, is not going to hold you back. I prefer the standard seatpost of the 2019 over the proprietary D-shaped post of the 2020, and the Future Shock is mechanically the same between the two at the Comp level, just a smooth cover instead of the wrinkly one. 2019 at that price would be a no brainer for me.

$600 less for a Di2 ?, a no brainer. Di2 is terrific, have used it 19 mos., no problems, is a terrific system.

I've been using Di2 for years and thousands of miles and it has been bulletproof, very much one of those things that helps to make the bike disappear under you. While mechanical Ultegra is plenty good, I'd go out of my way to stick with Di2.

does the 2019 have the future-shock 2.0? if not skip it. If is much easier to get di2 down the road, but changing the frameset is a pain

I was suspect about Di2 until I bought one, now I can't imagine going back to a mechanical groupset on my primary bike.

However if there are enough improvements in the 2020 frame so that it's considered "revolutionary" vs. "evolutionary", and you think you will be keeping that frame for a while, then that's about the only reason I'd sacrifice the Di2. I don't know the Specialized line so I can't tell you how improved the 2020 is (the website certainly makes it sound revolutionary, but that's their job).

You mentioned your LBS has it. Test ride both. Mimic your real-world riding style. It should become fairly obvious if the 2020 is a considerably better ride in terms of speed, comfort, etc. If so, go with the new frame and upgrade to Di2 later. If the ride quality is fairly close, I'd get the Di2 and pocket the extra cash.

I was ready to buy an Ultegra mechanical bike a couple years ago. Shop offered me Di2 at the same price. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity. I love my groupset. Everything works great every time.

I bought the 2019 Comp in April as well as a few others here
I was coming from SRAM and did not like any Shimano shifters until i tried the Di2 and i was sold, the whole lever does not move (what i did not like)

The 2020 frame is supposed to be Tarmac aero, have a straight boot future shock, riddance of extra hole in head tube for cables (because Di2) nicer seatpost,
other than that it is just the same

$3000 on the 2019 Comp Di2 is nice, cheaper than what i paid........ they used to be $4200 and then $3900 for a long time

My question is, what else is upgraded on the 2020 that the 2019 don't have (power meter? better components, etc.?). With the information available, I'd say grab the 19 with the DI2. Can't go wrong with an electronic groupset, especially for 600$ cheaper (wow!).

I'm having the same debate right now (buying a DI2 factory equipped or the bike I want & upgrade to DI2 later). Everyone told me: If you want a DI2, buy a bike that's factory equipped with one. The conversion will end up being more expensive at the end.
