Strava predicament

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Strava predicament

There is a particular Rail/Trail near my house that I ride often. It has several segments on it. This is a very popular ride and I know many friends who are on Strava and ride it. In fact, I see their results all the time. However, when I ride it and check my segment results it gives me only my results over time. It does not show all those who have ridden it. I have checked to make sure I'm not clicked into my results. Doesn't matter. I can't get others results. If a friend posts a ride, I can see all the results, including my own, for those segments. I've tried going to setting with no result. What is going on?

Check out the Strava support article on Segment Matching Issues.

Lots of reasons why your activity may not be matching a segment.

Thank you. I should mention that there are two "hidden" segments that, when accessed, show the normal results of all who have ridden it. And, when I went back to it, one of the original segments had converted to showing everyone's results.

Some Strava segments are quirky. I've seen some with obvious GPS errors so it's impossible to replicate the original rider who created the segment.

Other segments require following a fairly specific line, and being off by 10-20 yards or so might cause errors. One of my private segments has this quirk. If I deviate even slightly from the entry point to the segment it won't record at all.

Other segments followed old routes that have changed due to changes in the roads and highways. Locally we lost a segment when an old abandoned ranch was finally sold and developed. The farm to market road that used to pass through that ranch is completely gone now, along with the Strava segment. Others change if the city converts a two-way street to one-way; or when the railroad gets the city to close a road that used to be a through road to an old neighborhood or business park.

Other segments require blasting through intersections while ignoring stop signs and traffic lights, or were set at off-peak low traffic hours, at least to get a time anywhere close to the KOM.

Sometimes it makes better sense to create your own Strava segment to suit your riding preferences.

This is what confuses me.....I didn't create the segments. So, how can I be the only one showing results? Very strange.

What have you set for your privacy settings?

I think a segment is allowed to pass through your privacy area, but will not be allowed if it either begins or ends within your privacy area around the house.
