This post is enormously helpful, thanks so much! I'm definitely going to work on SST in various contexts (ERG rides, hill climbs, group training) and see if I can get a good bump on my FTP this winter that way.

This is a very useful and informative thread. I'm new at indoor training and only been riding for about a year, and not seriously at that. I know that I need training goals as I have a few ride goals for 2020 and want to do my best.
I'm a week into Zwift and what I have learned is I'm not in the shape I thought I was. When I'm feeling lazy, which is quite often, it's then easy to say that any kind of training is better than no training. But I think it a good idea to get a performance baseline established first so that is what I'm going to attempt between now and Christmas then break it down into specific training drills which I'm guessing will feature interval training. Once winter is over and I get back outdoors then things will change as I live in a hilly semi-rural area. My plans are to do a few half and even a full century next year but the ones I will do will be on flat courses. The biggest thing I need to do is increase my speed on the flat by 4 mph. I appreciate all of the information in this thread. |
