No road-riding today. I'm a little concerned about holiday drivers after some of the stupidity I've been witnessing over the weekend. I cranked out 15 miles on my MTB in the trails behind my house. I came back with some nice souvenirs which should go away with some soap and water...

I just did 20 miles on my Giant TCR. I was supposed to run the Peachtree Road Race but was not able to due to an injury so this was my ride was my replacement.

Mr. Longhorn and I took it easy today since it was my first ride in a week -- about eleven hilly miles before 9 a.m. They say the best way to get better at climbing is to climb!

Interesting ride today.

Thirty-two miles. Had a nice extended warmup of about eight miles as I was feeling so-so going out. At mile fourteen, a big rain cloud was approaching a ten minutes later it started to shower. The big rain was off to the west, but it wasn't the rain that was an issue today (until later, read on).

At about mile twenty, a lightning bolt struck about a mile west of me. I caught the flash in my peripheral vision then the clap of thunder came. BOOM! A friend was struck by lightning in middle school, so I was not comfortable at this point. Wasn't having a great day on the bike with the humidity around 80% and the temperature near 90F, but I picked up the pace pretty good...for some reason. Because the loop back home was right smack in the direction of that lightning bolt.

Fortunately, that was the only bolt I saw. The rain let off and the road was glassy looking. Very cool and the bike and my Vittoria tires were gliding over the road. The heat kicked in even more though as that water began to evaporate. Very muggy day. Definitely not a good hair day.

On the road that leads me back inside our outer loop, Man O'War Blvd., I was cruising along when I spotted a couple on their bikes about 1/4 mile ahead. They were rolling up to a stop sign. I looked down to grab a bottle and get a swig when I heard a SCREECHING noise. Looked up and saw a blue pickup spinning through the intersection. The fresh rain and oil at that intersection apparently made for difficult stopping.

My worst fear at that point was that the couple riding ahead of me got whacked, especially judging from the force the pickup truck carried. Fortunately, they were back from intersection enough. The pickup spun around and rolled backwards over a curb and took out a road sign. No injuries, thank God. Made sure everyone was alright and carried on home with a little extra awareness.

Got home, showered, and made a grilled cheese sammy and a bowl of tomato soup. A good ride despite the lightning and slick roads.

I did 14 miles out of 30 planned in the Georgia Hill Country. Then a big storm moved in and I got my tail back to the house.

45 mile in the mountains north east of Livermore. I am not sure of the names of all those passes, as my friend who lives there was leading the way.. But the temp was 98, and the wind was blowing hard enough that all the wind turbines on the crests were spinning like crazy. I am dead...

Well, I did about 16.5 miles on the way home from work today and averaged 16mph for the first time ever... then I rode around town and stuff tonight watching the fireworks and enjoying the festivities (and the "scenery" downtown *grin*). All told, ended up being 38.5 miles plus whatever I rode while I was tooling around downtown at 2mph (I took my speedometer off for that time period).

Just a quick, easy 10mi to flush some blood through my legs. I did a solo 55mi yesterday (3x around Paradise Loop) and spent most of the day today with the family.

did 82 hilly miles on Sunday and got to check out the Tall Ships in Tacoma in the
Thea Foss waterway. Did 63 hilly miles in Seattle today.

I was 21 miles into a 33 mile loop that I used to ride years ago from my parents' house today when I flatted from a little gravel rock in the road. Most of the ride is very rural backroads, but as I happened, the flat happened a few blocks from a good friend's house that I was meeting later today anyway, so I stopped at his place to fix it and stayed for a couple hours and swam in his pool. Not bad.

Did 30 miles in the countryside of the small town I grew up in. Couldn't get much better. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth.

Well only about 10 miles today for transportation. I guess yesterday doesn't count, but it was my originally-planned ride for the 4th: ~115 miles from Seattle to Bellingham taking the windy, hilly, scenic Whidbey Island route.

I did 80 miles from the High Desert of California to my parents house in Hacienda Heights. I had to ride a portion of my ride on the freeway. As I was riding on the freeway there had been a four car accident that was being cleaned up. Hope nobody was hurt. Felt great the whole way.

20 miles around Concord and Walnut Creek in my Stars and Stripes jersey. Swa no one else on the streets or bike paths showing colors - very disappointing. Would have ridden a little longer but cut short with knee problem (see other thread).

I did a 40 mile speed ride on some pretty hilly terrain with a killer headwind. I headed out into it at first, hoping that when I turned around I'd be able to fly back. The wind actually turned while I was climbing up the final hill before my turnaround point , so I had a headwind almost all of the way. Overall though, it was a fun time. Avg'd 19.1mph.

I did a commute to work, a 28 mile round trip. Last night during my commute I actually got to see some fireworks going off. That was a first for me, and very cool.

Enough of this commuting crap. Tomorrow I'm off and I'll get to do my 3rd century in 3 weeks. RAIN is coming soon....

I tortured myself today and climbed multiple mountains. Only planned to climb 3, but the road was closed on one of them as I reached the top, so I had to go back down and climb the next road over to continue on. And all of this in the heat and smog. By the time I got home, I could hardly breathe. Yeah, this was a fun ride - will try it again soon minus the smog.

I did 51.2 miles today, up and down the SA River Trail, and my knees were and still are killing me. Getting old sucks. Then spent the evening dodging mortars and skyrockets, it was like being at the Disneyland fireworks on a summer night, only bigger!
