Feared another Patriot/Dog attack story
I thought about Patriot and his story of the pit bull that attacked him....
Sunday out in the country I finally got my wife on her new Bianchi for the first time this season. We were going very slow and steady along a deserted farm road area when a small dog started barking at the end of a driveway. No lead/leash at all, he comes on to the road a little bit. No problem. Until the OTHER dog came charging out of the driveway with no one else around. A big German Shepard barking and running into the road at us.
I actually though of Patriot's story...and my leg unclipped as I started to yell out..."NO" very firmly to the dog, knowing full well that if this thing came at me I would have to do what Patriot did....give a firm kick to the head, something I would never want to do, being a dog lover. But it's me and my wife to protect out there.
The dog stopped...kept barking and I kept saying NO....that was it. We slowly went on, incident free. Freaked my wife out a little though, just what I didn't need happening on our first little ride together.
I was proud of her. She made it 14 very hilly miles, and she enjoyed it, except for the two hills where she had to stop and get off to walk a bit.

Unless that particular dog was trained for attacking (like a police dog), Shepherds "usually" respond to very forceful commands, even from strangers. I have two Shepherds, and the one tends to be very aggressive to strangers. However, even when strangers give a forceful command, he will back away, just enough to let you know not to come into our house. If you did, then you'd be in BIG trouble.
That owner should definitely keep better tabs on the dog, especially if he tends to go into the street after people. The driveway needs to be the forbidden boundary.
Glad to hear nothing happened. Hope the Mrs. isn't too traumatized over it, thus preventing her from going out anymore.

That does scare the crap out of you when a dog runs down a driveway. Glad it stopped. Yelling "no" was a great idea.
Murphy's law huh Hip? Scare the hell out of your wife on your first ride together. How is she at posing? Did you show her how its done?

I have enough dog stories to share but it would take a while... so I will share one...
Working security department bike patrol on a loaded (read 45- 50 pound) patrol bike, doing about 13 MPH. Dog jumps over this fence, a pit bull at that and starts running at my bike. I remain calm and grab my water bottle and shake it at the dog. He stops then goes for my leg (wearing tights under bike officer pants). I squirt him with the water, be procedes to back off (for a second) then attacks again as I ride away.
This time the dog got pepper in the face... still did not stop. The owner came out and started yelling at the dog but he would not stop. By this time he was attached to my leg. I attempted to kick the dog off but he would not budge... then the baton (lightsaber kids call it) came out and I gave the dog a good wap in the side of the head... the poor dog then relaesed as the owner screams at me.
Well the dog ended up not surviving and the police came. Nothing happened, but the owner has been pissed off eversince... owners of vicious dogs should know better than having their dogs in a situation where they could get hurt... I can still see the dog, and I still have the tore tights and pants to prove it...
Sad... very sad. And screaming did not help...
I have been chased by everything from a Chiawawa to a giant bird... what a job!

Riding through the country one day and a big black Doberman came charging out of a driveway and began to chase. My mate and I were freeking out. The dog quickly caught us and just as quickly ran right on by, then doubled back and ran between both of us and round and round having the time of his life.
We eventually had to turn back with the dog in tow so as to get him back home and into his yard, for which his owner was most greatful.
Some dog stories do have a happy ending
