Anyone here in Highschool?
 

I am just wondering how many high schoolers race/ride their bike from this forum. I am currently in high school and have not seen/know anyone my age ride a road bike. My freinds are always like "cycling, what were ya thinking?" and joke about my spandex.

What can you expect in an area that actually has a concrete corn field?

i just graduated and i've been riding for about a year

Gonna be a senior next year, been riding seriously for about 6 months...

I'm going to be a sophomore next year and I've been riding for about a year. Nothing too serious yet. I would like to get into some racing, but I run XC and track which gets in the way.

I'll be a junior next year and i've been riding seriously for two years. every one knows me as "that bike kid " because I ride to school. Im the only one who rides or walks to school out of 1800 students. everyone honks at me as they drive by in their cars when I'm out riding my road bike. The only people Ive seen riding seriously around here are 30+ years old. I was beggining to think I was the only one!

I'll be a sophmore next year, and am riding pretty seriously, including spandex. I also BMX, I just enjoy biking as a whole. I usually keep cycling/spandex on the down low, but if it comes up, I just joke about it. You just need to have confidence and all is good. Next year I'm going to find out about starting a cycling team. Hopefully it will surprise me and the turnout will be good, but I doubt it.

Im going to be a junior this year. I dont know anyone else who bikes at all. Right now im also running for cross country but once the season is over Im just going to do all biking....I like it a lot more.

Im gonna be a junior. Been riding pretty hard for a couple years. Raced mostly dirt last year. Doing more road this year.

Im goin be a sophmore next year. Me and my friend ride pretty serious goin on long rides and stuff but no racing yet. Have yet to find a place that I can race in. Im from NYC area if anyone has any suggestions. There are very few of roadies in my high school. One of my friends saw me ridin with my spandex and wont stop makin jokes about it. I know how you feel.

Senior next year, had a car, sold it 100% commuter!

I had a buddy who went to Penn State on a Cycling scholarship a few years ago... he peddled in high school in a serious way. Don't listen to your buddies... you will be getting chicks (or guys, whatever you prefer) with your cycling physique while they wish they could with their beer bellies!! :D

^ Yeah too bad 90% of my school is ghetto.

Id love to cycle to school but its just not possible. My school is about 15 miles from my house. First classes start at 7:25...so to bike id have to wake up at around 5:30 to get ready and to make the ride. I couldnt go around school all sweaty and nasty. Id have to change my clothes and shoes. Most importantly, Id have nowhere to keep my bike. Man...the ride would be so awesome though.

For you guys getting crap for spandex from your friends, do you have wrestling in your school? Not only are they in spandex, but they're in a complete spandex body suit, and to top it off, they roll around with other sweaty guys, ALSO in spandex body suits. At least we only have some shorts, and keep a fair distance from other guys :).

Even in football, their pants are probably as tight as ours, and again... crawling on other men.
