Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

still curious about the size & weight of the wrench, from what height it fell, how did the wrench reach that height above the bike, was the bike on a repair stand, was your bike getting service that required a wrench, who dropped it & why? Not saying it didn’t happen as they said, just interested in freak accidents. For example Friday my Wife cut her finger on her right hand (6 stitches on the fingerprint area) while using a utility knife w her right hand. She said it flew out of her hand and she doesn’t know how it happened

I'm sure there's a story behind it. Years ago, we were painting the basement floor before selling a house, and I was unloading the paint at the top of a sloping driveway. I bobbled one of the cans of paint.....which fell, spilling open, and pouring gray paint all the way down our asphalt driveway. I got some cat litter to absorb the paint, and got MOST of it off the driveway, but I ended up having to re-coat the driveway, too.

At least it looked nice when I was done.

Everybody has those Oh sh*t! moments where something happens and you wonder how it could have happened. I had received a call not 45 minutes earlier that the bike was ready for pickup, and right before I left the house, I got the 2nd call. Stuff happens.

Another reason, when given the opportunity, we should support our local bike shops over driving them out of business with online purchases. Sometimes it may cost a little more but it's nice to have a good local shop to work with.

A "wrench" is also the vernacular for a mechanic. Maybe one of the clumsy ****ers just fell on it.

I wouldn’t mind a drive to Herndon to check them out when/if I’m in the market for a new bike.

Not yet - I'm keeping the saddle, pedals and bottle cages, but the wheels / hardware are all in good shape.

Shimano WH-R500 wheels/Continental Gatorskins (Tires have 500 or so miles).
Ultegra shift levers
Ultegra (brand new) rim brakes
Ultegra triple 53/42/30 crankset (18 months old, light usage)
Shimano SM-BB6700 bottom bracket
Ultegra 11/27 cassette
Ultegra long-cage rear derailleur
Dura-Ace chain
Giant headset (18 months)
Profile clip-on aero bars
The front fork is undamaged, and can still be used.

If you're interested, make me an offer.

I would be interested in the Cassette, rear derailer, and the shifters, and the chain as well. PM me what you would want for those.

That would be my choice too, looks great! I love Giant's orange (hopefully it's the same orange on yours, looks to be, should look great with the gray!), which is what prompted me to grab a '19 Revolt even though the 2020's were available, because they had dropped the orange for '20.

Well, here it is. I picked up my new bike today. A-1 Cycling in Herndon, VA worked out a deal that allowed me to step into a brand-new Giant Defy 2. Carbon fiber, hydraulic disc brakes, 105 components, It's brand new from the factory. They moved my saddle, pedals, computer mounts, bottle cages, etc over to the new bike, and it's waiting for the first decent day to get it out on the road. Do I miss my OCR? Yeah - it took me through over 10,000 miles of training rides, mountain climbs, 7 century rides, and three triathlons, so there's some sentimental value. This bike will make it much easier for me to get over that.

Would I recommend A-1? Absolutely.

Looks great!! Glad they took good care of you.

I got to thinking about the Defy, so I went and test rode one from the LBS where I bought my Revolt...should be bringing her home in a week or so lol They're gonna do some upgrades for me, but it felt good and was the fit I was looking for. I really liked the color scheme you got, but I went for the Wine Purple, great color, especially in the sun.

Over sixteen years on this forum and you give us a pic from the non-drive-side and in the small chainring? For shame, for such great shame.

Purty though!

Good point. Ya got me there.

Let me get the orange water bottles on it, and I'll flip it around for a proper pic.

It'll go well with my old bike (which my son rides now). We've got at least one century together on the books for the coming year. Since this pic, we've removed the fenders and rack. I'm putting Gatorskin slicks on it this weekend, and it'll get a comprehensive checkout @ A-1 next week.

The Jake needed some serious maintenance - chain/cassette, pulleys and front chainring, along with a front hub. Wheels are getting trued, along with replacing brake pads, and re-doing the handlebar tape. Since the bike is exclusively used on the road, I put Gatorskin 32s on it, and sized the front chainring to a 50 vs the tighter cyclocross gearing. So, a bit of a $ dent, but considering that the bike is 12 years old and survived a car impact (guy hit me in an intersection - only had to replace the front wheel and rack at the time), I'm happy to have A-1 do the work. I'm still way ahead on this one.
