Your Weekend Ride Reports -- February 1/2
Month 1 done ... on to month 2!!
Tell us all about the cycling you've done this week/weekend. |
Thursday -- I raced tonight.
I finished in 8th place!!! https://community.myfitnesspal.com/e...oji/smiley.png I haven't sustained a heart rate over 160 bpm for 43 minutes and 22 seconds in years. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/e.../anguished.png I had to lie down with my feet up after. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/e...ji/neutral.png Zwift has these cycling races. People from all over the world sign up for them, we all get on our bicycles on trainers, and they start at a designated time. This race was 18.5 km and started at 8:10 pm my time. I got there a bit early and warmed up ... maybe just a bit too long. If I do this again, I might go for a shorter warm up. And then the countdown and the group of us were off. I stuck with the front 2 riders for about 3 km and then 2 more joined our little group of 3. At about 6 km, the group split up ... some really took off and I dropped off the back, and was then passed by a couple riders. I tried to catch them and would occasionally get close but not quite. With 5 km to go, I was struggling. I wanted to stop! But there were riders behind me and I was holding 8th position, so I kept pushing and pushing and finally it was finished!! Oh there were 2 intermediate sprints and I placed 5th on those!!! https://community.myfitnesspal.com/e...astonished.png Way back when, before I got into the long distance audax/randonneuring side of cycling, I raced. I raced for 3 years and stopped when it got too political. But a little part of me still likes the idea of racing. I'm a bit shy about doing it in real life, especially in this area where it is so hilly ... so maybe these Zwift races are the way to go! Distance: 18.63km Elevation: 192m Moving Time: 44:08 Elapsed Time:45:11 Speed: Avg: 25.3km/h | Max: 49.7km/h Heart Rate: Avg: 167bpm | Max: 175bpm Cadence: Avg: 79 | Max: 99 Power: Avg: 119W Max: 185W Calories: 383 Perceived Exertion: Hard ----------------------------------------------------- Saturday -- My legs were dead!! I guess I put out more energy on Thursday than I thought! Distance: 12.20km Elevation: 83m Moving Time: 48:44 Elapsed Time: 53:52 Speed: Avg: 15.0km/h | Max: 28.4km/h |
Sunday (today) -- it's very windy, so I'll probably ride inside. I'm thinking of doing an FTP test on the bicycle so that I can get a power baseline for reference.
Throughout February, some work colleagues and I are planning to do a February 500 ... climbing 500 flights of stairs in total by the end of February. So I'm curious ... if I do an FTP test today, then do the February 500, then do another FTP test at the end of the month, will it make a difference to my power!?! I hope so! :) |
I had a bad sore throat on Thursday, not so bad on Friday then sucked again when I woke up today, Saturday. I had planned a climbing ride but with the sore throat, I figured maybe I shouldn't. Glad I didn't got in a good silent ride, voice is gone. :D
Rode my old 1998 Cannondale CAD3, still love this bike. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...143b7bbf45.jpg Wore my bones jersey so others could see how hard my heart was working and the congestion in my chest. But really, nobody really cared! :D https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...aeb64ac531.jpg |
Sunday -- did my Zwift FTP test!
Distance: 16.60km Elevation: 134m Moving Time: 45:14 Elapsed Time: 45:14 Speed: Avg: 22.0km/h | Max: 63.4km/h Heart Rate: Avg: 140bpm | Max: 170bpm Cadence: Avg: 80 | Max: 119 Power: Avg: 105W | Max: 217W Calories: 271 ------- And then I did a cooldown row ... Distance: 1,622m Time: 10:26 ...............Avg .......... Max Speed: 3:12/500m | 2:36/500m Cadence: 28 | 30 Power: 49W | 72W Calories: 80 Perceived Exertion: Easy |

Sunday WIND!!! Yesterday's ride was much nicer even with a sore throat but today was WIND. Still fun though! 32 miles at 16.4 average, darn WIND!
Rode with a buddy, hence the Team Fat Bastard ha ha! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...afa978b3b4.jpg At the park watering my bottle, some young dude comes up, sees my name on my bike and asks," are you 'THE' Dude?!" Yeah Son, that is me, The Dude. The one and only! :D Couple of really cool friendly dudes, new friends! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...34a2dc9da2.jpg |
77 miles over to the coast via backroads, then north to Watsonville and back from there. Did hit some brutal wind on 1N but it helped some after that. Low 50s and sunny.

Friday: 26 miles and a ticket for slow rolling a right turn at a four-way stop with no opposing traffic. Checked my front and rear video at home and discovered the cop had been shadowing me for a mile, saw me come to full stops at three intersections, but pounced the moment I made a mistake that had no effect on "public safety", despite the well meaning lecture. Kinda ruined my day.
Saturday: An hour on the indoor trainer and another hour of core work, pushups, curls, neck, back and ab work. I'm doing home PT a couple of times a week and it's really helping on bike rides. For years my saddle time/distance was limited by neck pain from old injuries. Usually I had to stop every 10 miles or so to stretch and massage the neck spasms. Now I can manage up to 40 miles nonstop. Makes it easier to tag along on moderate pace group rides. Sunday: 38 miles on a sunny, warm, not-too-windy groundhog day. Saw my shadow, so I reckon that means six more weeks of whimper. |
My first long-ish ride of 2020. Went into work to take care of a few things. The ride in was beautiful. The ride back I was going over the Richmond bridge directly into a 30 mph headwind. It didn't let up once I touched down either. I'm a bit tore up right now.

Led a club ride Saturday, which I haven't done in a while.
Hilly, with nice conditions & low wind, unlike today! 69, 6,500' https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5dc161321b.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f6c756a294.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...18178f026d.jpg |

That road from Sir Francis Drake out to Limantour Beach is beautiful. Never ridden it, but looking forward to trying it on a nice spring/summer day. |

Spent the weekend at the in-laws place in Bend. Gave the new road bike a good gravel workout! Almost bit it a few times on top of a plateau due to a combination of loose gravel, crosswinds, 42mm deep rims, and 25mm GP5K's.
