Carbon Wheels - Which set based on color options?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon Wheels - Which set based on color options?

I have a black / red themed road bike that I am looking to upgrade to a carbon wheel set (50-60 deep - 700c). If I am being 100% honest, the upgrade is not to make me faster, and is primarily because I like the looks of the deeper mm wheels and have been wanting a carbon wheel set. If I want to go faster, I will stay out of the kitchen...

With that said, I was hoping for some recommendations on a descent set in the $1000 - $1600 range with the only requirement being that they must be black and contain red accents. (Markings / free hub / spokes, etc). My primary riding is 20 - 100 miles at a time, mostly flat with a few climb days. I do not try to be the fastest or race. I bike for fun...

So far, the only real wheel I have found is the Bontrager Aeolus XXX 6 TLR Disc. My LBS has offered to build one out with Whiskey rims, but not sure of options that could add some red to these. (Free hub maybe?)

Figured I would ask the community to see what is out there. Thanks in advance!

That's horrible criteria. Get good wheels, first and foremost, and then buy some red stickers if you really have to to.

Fulcrum wheels have a red "F" on the rims. do you have rim or disc brakes? if disc, then the "wind 55 DB" is nice and nice looking, just a splash of red...and of very good quality, looks like $1100 on probikekit.com.

If liking the looks on your wheels motivates you, and you aren't going into debt splurging, more power to ya.

Take a look at Light Bicycle AR56 rims, you can get red i9 hubs and nipples and they'll even do custom decals. There's a long thread on LB here.

I agree, sorry figured that was a given.

If you are disc brake, here is another option, a little out of your price range...

I'd like to pretend that I'm some kind of purest that only cares about performance, but I too care about how my bike looks as much as how it performs

I agree with others that have stated that it would probably be best to buy a quality set of wheels and then just get colored decals. Up until recently, most wheels simply had decals on them and quite a few manufacturers still allow you to choose your sticker color for an up-charge.

As for looks, one road wheelset that has some color are Industry 9 wheels. They'll let you customize the hub and spoke nipple colors on their wheels to some pretty anodized colors. The bummer about their wheels is that I'm not fond of the graphics that they put on the rims themselves.

You can play around with different color combinations on their web site:

So important that while riding you project the right amount of je ne sais quoi

Check out Atomik wheels. Decent reviews and you get to customize the color of the decals to match your kit.

The Zipp 404 Firecrests seem to be quite popular. Black with hint of red in the logo (similar to Bontrager). Campy Bora has a lot more red in it, but very pricey wheelset. Not sure you can get new Zipp 404 in your budget, but certainly lightly used.

You can get DT Swiss stickers in any color you want. So I wouldn’t necessarily choose a hub just because it’s red.
