looking for an inexpensive bike computer, need reccomendations

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just want basic functions. current speed, avg. speed, max. speed, trip distance, total distance, trip timer.

I do not care if it is wireless or not as long as it works good and cost $20 or less.

Has anyone used the Supergo® C9 WIRELESS COMP? It looks like it is a dB 4LW Wireless Cyclocomputer just rebranded with supergo's logo. It has all the features I want for my commuter, but supergo's is $17.98 and Performance has the dB 4LW Wireless Cyclocomputer $19.99.

so those are 2 I am looking at, what others does anyone reccomend? for ease of use, quick and easy set-up. reliability etc

Thanks

I have this one and love it. I basically researched here what people preferred and found there was a lot of chatter about the Cateye Astrale 8. It's a very nice unit although I hate the way the LBS wired it. Looking to find a cleaner way of running the wiring.

I have a CatEye Enduro8 that I got at a local bike shop. It does everything I need it to, although I wish it would show you what time it is while you're riding. (You have to let it go back to sleep before it shows the actual time, so far as I can tell.) I think I paid about $30 for it, without shopping around.

CatEye Astrale 8. It's accurate, cheap and has cadence which many don't.

But what if he doesn't want cadence?

What if he knows exactly what he's looking for?

What if he's already got the Astrale on another one of his bikes and this computer is for his commuter?

I love my Planet Bike Protege 9.0 and it meets your cost requirement ($20) if you get it from Jensen USA (the cheapest place I've ever seen it....they're way less than most other online places). Four lines of text on a large display, so you don't have to keep pushing buttons to see what you want to see.

I do have a Cateye Astrale 8 on my road bike and I do like it very much. I might just get another one for my touring/commuting bike but thought I would this opportunity to try something different.

I feel that I really need cadence on my commuter. Just the features I listed above. I just saw that Supergo has the Supergo® C12 COMP on sale this weekend for $12.95, so I may give that on e atry just to see.

I am not looking for the "best" bike, just a good one that does what I want.

Eventually I want to buy a Cateye CD300DW for my road bike and then will likely move the Astrale to my tour bike. but I can't do that for a few months.

Thanks for all the tips

I do like the way it looks, I might have to think about that one. Are planet bike products sold anywhere locally? or just internet sales?

I'm in upstate NY, so there's very little variety sold locally....where you are might be a different story.

I have been very happy with my DB4L (wired version of the above). It cost a whopping 14 canadian dollars, for its features and 4-row display I'm satisfied.

Where'd you get it from in Canada? MEC doesn't seem to do the C version.

Maybe, if you have a pacemaker like I do. I'd like to get an HRM that includes heart rate with altitude.

For basic functions I use the Supergo C-12 wired. It does everything the Cateye Astrale 8 does (which I have on my other bike) except cadence but it has temperature (which is fun for the heat here in the valley).

It only does auto timing mode (doesn't time when you are stopped)

I recommend it. I got it for $14.99 at Supergo in Chandler, it was on sale recently for $9.99, maybe it still is.
