Small "bumps" on tyres?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not bumps. Depressions.

It's normal.

They are wear indicators.

When they disappear, you are supposed to replace the tire.

Yup, most Conti road tires and some others have the same tread wear dimples.

There are exceptions with their knobby and heavily treaded tires, like my Sport Contact II and SpeedRides -- with those you guesstimate wear by looking at the tread itself.

At first I worried about pebbles and debris getting stuck in the dimples and causing flats. Never happens. It can happen with some tread patterns, especially my SpeedRide diamond/file pattern tread, but even when tiny pebbles stick in the tread it doesn't seem to cause any problems.
