Yeah, I know how it is. Sometimes you'd think it was politics or religion we were talking about. Oh wait, I guess in a way we are...

That's right!

"...and it was written, the blasphemous Shimano Hordes were thus smitten down by the Great Invisible Hand of Tullio...never again to defile the Holy Land of Tuscany..."

Right now at Repartocorse.com

Centaur group = $724.00
Ultegra group = $769.00

Record group = $1,300.00
Dura Ace group = $1,379.00

So you like to pay more then?

Game. Set. Match.

531Aussie 07-11-05 10:12 PM

how do you say it? "Beeoytch? :D

Yeah, I'm a Shimano Beeoytch :p

A few months ago I bought 2 pairs of DA cranks and BB for $1220 AUS!!! (~$915 US), and
that was a "special" deal!!

It might be a Phil Anderson thing. He was SO big down here amongst cyclists during
the 80s, and his relationship with Shimano and STI, and all that......

racingpain 07-11-05 10:38 PM

I think this comes down if you want european made Campy or American made Shimano, personally I think that staying patriotic is great and Shimano works fine for me.

Same here. They own me. I stuck with them because I didn't want to buy more tools. I like Shimano though. Have nothing against them or Campy. I'd be all for another company or two getting into the road market as the consumer will benefit.

catatonic 07-11-05 10:52 PM

Ummm.....dude.....

American components are few and far between...I don't even know an american company that make full groupsets...

They were trying to be the next big thing. Maybe if they got it to work effectively it would have put pressure on Shimano in the same way STI put pressure on Suntour.

I don't know the history very well, but it looks like Campagnolo was able to survive by developing a shifter whereas Suntour wasn't able to.

You mean they aren't? Toyota is more American in some ways than the big 3.

531Aussie 07-11-05 10:59 PM

i think the mavic stuff was just too expensive

Wow! You're as obsessed as I am. I'll throw in Mavic just to be difficult.

I actually like grabbing those ugly shimano cables while my forearms are on the tops for a somewhat TT position... That said, I am switching to Campy next because my Shimano is a PAIN to get right. I have heard from many of my friends that the campy indexing does not have to be as spot on and it also shifts more decisively.

I was actually shocked at how easy the Campy indexing was to setup... I suck at adjusting derailleurs and had it done in 10 minutes or so when I built my bike. The front was more difficult than the rear, which I guess is pretty much normal.

Dr. Manhattan 07-12-05 02:48 AM

Is low-end Campy stuff comparable to Sora and Tiagra?

I think it's BEYOTCH ('Murcun version) or BEYATCH (Brit/Aussie pronunciation). (?) But you have to capitalize it or it doesn't work as well.

So, I guess you're just a ShimaNO BE--YAAAATCH, Aussie. :roflmao:

Not sure about Xenon and Mirage, but I know that Veloce works well and is a good value price-wise as Campy goes.
