I've been wanting to try out some of their stuff; a LS merino jersey would be a welcome addition for me, right about now.

Nice looking jerseys.
Man, I wish I lived somewhere where winter riding could be done in shorts and bare hands.

I am attending the virtual Sea Otter today - off and on - and one of my early thoughts was, "Why the f is absolutely every company using the same boring tired - 'let's get some in shape millenials and go ride in cool woods with no actual words or sales pitch but crappy inspirational music. Oh and it has to be raining or wet' Every single ad and promotional piece in this industry is the same anymore.
I SOOOOOOooooo want to do a parody of it as a comedy piece. Set in a corn field of course.

Pretty much just go to a company's website if they are a larger company and their "latest" products will have videos like this.
I remember when the videos used to be of Amazing speed and color and the spectacle that was racing and or professional road like the tour.
Later I will request that everyone please exit my lawn.

It's a great ad. And I'm really digging the orange bike. Makes me want to get out on my orange Motobecane (Korean origin, not French sadly). Looking forward to some great rides this fall. It's amazing how the weather got a little chill in the air as if on cue with the start of September.

Although the ad purports to advertise the clothing to "ride through winter" the trees and landscape all look quite green, and it's warm enough that the riders are not wearing any gloves.
Is this a Southern California-style "winter??"

They conveniently edit out any actual winter- sand in your teeth, numb hands, potholes in the dark, falls on ice, etc..
And no bottle flip.

At the same time, nobody is going to hold a casting call for cyclists with a bmi over 30. An image has to be cultivated for high priced clothing to sell.
And to your other point- pro cyclists riding fast could sell an image, but that isnt an image that appeals to me and based on the advertising trend, it doesnt currently appeal to a lot of others.
What pros use isnt very important to me because I dont dream of being emaciated and illegally pulling blood over and over.
I do dream of having an incredible day ride experience with friends.

Totally get what you are saying, and with it clearly being a trend, a parody would be funny.

At least in the US - 80's competitive road. 90's mtb into early 00's. Road from ~'03-2013. Cross/gravel/adventure 2013ish to now. It will swing back in a couple of years.
This time the change will be COVID caused.
-Many of the people I know who used to race and left have been picking their road bikes back up and falling in love with it again. Enough that they are now starting to think of training and racing again.
-Tons of new people have come to the sport. The natural progression is to ride, ride more, and if they're the competitive type they will start looking at the culture and options of racing and many will try it.
- Many of us who have been keeping it on life support were burned out and needed a break. We are now reconnecting with the passion for speed and competition and the desire to return.
-That "hippie" nomadic experienced based, non competitive Millennials thing has aged up and is now in their 30's and headed towards 40. It will be how we solve the doping masters problem in the sport but the gist is that the late teen early 20's Gen Z's are competitive and are starting to fill in the void that has been left in the competitive side of our sport.
Selling adventure works now because the ages and the generations line up with the natural swing of the sport. As we begin to transition we will find that guy showing up to try the fast group ride borrowing his friend's bike that is using 40mm tires, bento box, handlebar bag, etc and deciding it's not the right tool for the job.

Not seeing anything really bad ass there. Maybe the dude getting ready to eat the overly ripe banana in the Shimano ad. If he can eat that, he is a bad ass, indeed. I did see a few porn staches. I guess those could be considered bad ass.
