Addiction LXXX

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like the bike did a good job of absorbing a lot of the impact though.

Probably not.

If that were a crabon boat they'd fix it.

Interesting point. Maybe that's one reason why the rider stayed put and had minimal skin damage. I literally saw no blood.

Early in the Tour this year there was a guy, I forget who, who had that nasty crash on the rainy stage (1?) downhill off the front and went headfirst into a stone wall. The fork bent backwards but he didn't even hit the ground. Same principle.

Not that I'd want to test it, or trust it...

In the spoke department, it turns out that anything longer than 295 doesn't exist, in any color, in these parts, anyway. I have a pair of Sunshine Gyromasters that unfortunately have the same measurements as the Records. But. I also have a pair of Sunshine high flange hubs, which will bring the measurement down below 295, and as such there are spokes in existence. Possibly even in silver. The Mavic Monthlery Pro rims have an ERD of 616, which is quite a bit bigger than most. Must be a tubular thing.

Officially, 310mm straight gauge spokes exist. At least Wheelsmith makes some. It's our basic commodity spoke at the shop. We cut them to fit.

Of course, local availability varies locally.

I could get them custom cut, but I don't want to pay for them. With these high flange hubs, spokes will be very reasonably priced.

Anything I want

But really, it's a bit underutilized. Usually just my repair kit & pump, wallet, keys, power bank, and phone.

It's most useful feature for me is the clear map case on the top. I don't use GPS for my long rides, just an odometer and cue sheet.
