Crude color photography can be argued to have existed as early as 1850, but it first started being sort of commercially viable in the late 1890s. It was definitely still very expensive, cumbersome, and rare in 1900, though.

If you need to carry extra stuff on a road bike, this bag makes the most sense to me. I'd rather have it all mounted to the rear of the saddle then have extra weight on the bars where it may affect my steering. Also, its mounted going down the seatpost instead of straight out the back of the saddle like most bags.

I disagree better ideas are out there. Different ideas sure, but better is a stretch.

Stopped in one of my local Spesh shops to pick up some gravel tires. They have four Aethos in stock. Did the lift test on a silver 58cm, ridiculously light.

Yup! This shop usually gets new stuff pretty quick. They've had a steady flow of SL7s since the release and have had the Aethos in the shop for a few days.

In audio there are some scams which are presented as improvements, including speaker cables which use faulty physics to justify prices in the tens of thousands of dollars just for the cables. A classic example is dealing with increased resistance due to skin effect at higher audio frequencies. For a couple of meters of 8 gauge solid copper the resistance due to skin effect at 20 kHz goes from 0.008 Ohms at DC to 0.016 Ohms at 20 kHz. This is in series with the DC resistance of 4 Ohms for a typical Magnepan speaker. Thus, the high frequency attenuation due to skin effect is only 0.017 db if you calculate the skin depth multiplied by the circumference of solid 8 gauge copper wire. This calculation is good within a few percent of Bessel function ratios used to calculate t exactly. The attenuation is even less for stranded wire because stranded wire has less skin depth. There are other examples of bad physics in wildly "cost is no object" cables. Another example you might be familiar with is the WAVAC 833A SET stereo amplifier system costing $350.000. You can build one almost exactly like it for about $2000 with minimum knowledge of how to design the SET. I do not know whether the $350.000 one even gives you polypropylene power supply filter capacitors instead of the inferior electrolytic ones; many very expensive tube amplifiers do not.
The same is true of so many high dollar luxuries such as $12,000 bicycles. Steel is more reliable in the long run than carbon which saves a couple of pounds at great expense and there are certain to be less expensive bikes which are far more beautiful or can be made so by customizing or restoring them.

I hope they only sell 5. $12.5k for a non-aero mutt with a click-bait weight thanks to some alpinist wheelset? For $12.5k, a "civilian" bike better come with a well-tuned engine.

For that price I could by a custom fit Ti bike that would fit like a glove and last forever as well as a fully outfitted custom fit Ti touring bike that would also fit like a glove for when I simply pedal away from it all.

High-end audio is the perfect comparison. Both can be phenomenally expensive (audio more so), are full of snake oil, and the realm of marginal gains is a discussion in and of itself.
But, cool, if someone wants high-end audio, go for it. I have a pair of hand made 300B monoblocks because I wanted them, not because I think everyone needs tubes.

I own a pari of Paradigm studio 60 speakers, which I think are great ((can't remember what they cost, but it was under $2000), but they don't faintly compare (nor, of course, does my amp, etc).
In high end audio, it is totally possible to find overpricced things that don't sound good, but the state of the art can be awfully great...
On the other hand, studio 1's, $40,000 spearks did the job just as well as studio 2's more than twice expensive, but I have NO idea which actually sounded better, or how they were different (the use of each being several years apart). But with both the experience was: WOW! I've lived in this music, but I never heard all of it until then.
Mastering studios have much better speakers than recording studios.
