Opinion about a groupset

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opinion about a groupset

Hello everyone,
I'm about to buy a second-hand bike and something smells fishy to me.
I'm not an expert so would be grateful if you can shed light on that issue.

I contacted a guy selling Giant advanced pro 1 (2018). The group set is supposed to be Shimano Ultegra,
however, from two of the photos, it seems that the crank is ' SRAM Red' and on the front brake it says 'campagnolo potenza' (Unfortunately I'm new in this forum and cannot post photos yet)
Does it make sense that all components are original in that case or am I just too sceptical?

Thank you very much in advance!

Frankenbike. It may have Ultegra derailleurs and brifters but not a groupset, but that doesn't in itself make it a bad bike.

Advertising it as an Ultegra groupset is another matter.

I'm not opposed to Frankenbikes, but on a bike this new I'd need to know why. I'd likely pass myself though if the STI's, brakes and DR's weren't the same make, model and maybe even version.

This is what it should have been new, unless it was just a frame someone built with pieces parts they scrounged.

It would never come from Giant like that.
You would have to ask the seller how it ended up like it is.

Pass for me. Buyer Beware. Does the seller have a history like you would find on Ebay?

You'll need to ask questions but I'm not fully surprised. My wife's 2019 CaadX came stock with a Shimano build but the crank from fsa sucked and a Campy Carbon CX was readily available new with a BB for 110.00 so I did a swap and dropped a half lb and the brakes were cheap as well so I tossed on some Juin Tech hydraulic which look prettier for her and stop much better.
Two things companies tend to cheap out on are brakes and cranks so these being changed make some sense to me.

Ok guys, thank you very much for your input!
I think I'd pass since the seller doesn't provide any satisfying answers

I know you've arrived at your decision already but with the bike shortage, you find a lot of frankenbikes on sale at Craigslist or OfferUp as people try to capitalize on the demand.

If it works, I really don't see any problem in mix & matching. (If the price is right)

If your Ultegra bike has SRAM crankset, cassette and chain along with Shimano duraillers and shifters you will not see any difference. Brake calipers are relatively cheap so I would say everything depends on price. If price is closer to price of new bike pass it. If price is half of the new and bike is in a good condition I would consider it.

Ask the seller if all the parts are original. If he says no, and explains why he swapped out the crank and brakes, then there’s no reason to not buy it. If he claims it’s all the way he bought it, then that’s a red flag.
