Specialized not freewheeling
 

Hi

Just bought a specialized roubaix sl4 with sram. This is first sram as other bikes run ultegra. It does not freewheel, is this a feature of sram or do i need to exchange hub???

Does not freewheel at all? Or there is some drag on the freewheel?

It's not abnormal for brand new hubs to be a little "tight" and have some freewheel drag that causes the crank to rotate a bit when coasting if you take your feet off the pedals.

this is often the case with DT Swiss hubs

OOOOOOH! Is this really a conversation about the dreaded and feared ghost pedaling? I thought the OP was saying the free hub was stuck and wouldn't let them coast or back pedal.

IMO, if the chain on the top doesn't go slack when coasting with the pedals stopped, then it's not an issue.

The OP might be saying that, I can't really tell.

When I bought my new bike in June it was doing the ghost pedaling thing, especially when I was in the 11t or 12t cog and coasting. If I stopped pedaling at speed, I could feel the crank pushing back, and if I unclipped the crank would turn on it's own. I also noticed it doing this while in the bike stand.

I asked my shop about it, they told me it's a sign that I need to stop coasting so much and just pedal more. :lol:

It went away after a few hundred miles. Now the hubs are buttery smooth.
