I put them within easy reach, but then after doing the first side, I put the scissors down in ANOTHER spot within easy reach and end up standing there holding the tape on the last bit and looking hither and yon for them.

I think that I'd like something that'd take 4" tires but not more - that way it could do double duty, running skinnier MTB tires on it at other times of the year, and not have it look too awkward with yawning gaps between the fork/stays. I don't know how that'd work in reality, but the versatility would make it easier to justify.

According to one video I saw, you can't wrap them from the top, or they'll unravel. Another said you can't wrap from the bottom, or they'll unravel. A third video, featuring the head wrench for a pro team said, "Doesn't matter. Works either way."
So I just keep doing it the way I know how, but having realized that with Figure-of-8 I don't need that extra piece of bar tape behind the levers - which NEVER sticks, and it's always too long - it's easier.

MAN!! Today's commute was a whole lot of no fun. Combine fog with rain that changes from nonexistent to 'wipers full on isn't quite enough' within a mile, and toss in highly variable wind. I was passed by some jaspers going 80 in SUVs, and I remember what a friend told me once, driving through a snowstorm from Bozeman MT to Livingston - "Four [or All] Wheel Drive will help you go, but it won't help you stop".
Just last week, a coworker and I were discussing the mostly dry January and wondering whether we'd all be reduced to sponge bathing this summer. Be careful what you wish for.

Oh, no, it's us, too. especially where it burned. The year I moved here was the first of the El Nino winters, after the drought of the late 70s. Mudslides galore.

Since I got my Hed Big Deal carbon wheelset, I've decided that I'm going to run 5" tires in the winter and 4" tires in the non-winter months for trails and cyclocross.

I put Phil Wood BB's on the Battaglin and the Ritchey so I'd never have to touch them again. AND when I replaced the 2006 FSA BB on the Bianchi, I replaced it with Campy UT cups, which need a different tool.

Just got word, dads had another heart incident and is back in the hospital. I talked with my mother. He is doing well, and in good spirits. But no visitation due to covid.
Its hard to talk about but I haven't been on good terms with them since well before x mas. Ended up in an argument over the holidays. I feel like a punching bag at a boxing gym.

I keep a spring clip, a pair of scisors and some 1/2" gaffers tape in my bike tool box for this reason. (When I can keep the spring clip in the box that is, its one of those tools that is hard to keep track of) I used to have a pin spanner that I used for holding tape, (like a clothes pin) but it escaped the tool box.
I use the clip when I get to the levers.To hold the wrap while I trim the small piece that hides the clamps. Stick it in place. Unclip and do the figure 8. Finish. Done
