Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recall the issue is that the engine starts RIGHT UP, runs for 30 seconds, then dies. Restart, runs 30 seconds again, then dies. Etc.

I took the housing off to expose the carburetor. Removed the bowl. Lots of flow of gas, so the idea that the gas line is not flowing properly is wrong. What a mess!

After I took off the bowl I did spray the needles and float and innards, best I could, with cleaner. I only had "throttle body" cleaner which I think is good enough.

I did not get a chance to test if this solved the problem, but will issue a report later today.
Many years (or pages) ago I suggested you spritz a little carb spray or other flammable liquid into the air horn to see if it would keep running. If it does, and you don't start a fire, then it's a fuel problem. If adding fuel this way doesn't affect it, then it may be an ignition problem.
Does it have a manual choke? Have you tried choking it before it stalls?

Sometimes if there is a restriction in fuel flow through the main jet you can free it by choking the air when the thing is revving up. Wait until it is running at the highest rpm it will attain, then block all air with a piece of cardboard, the choke, or even your hand. The engine vacuum might pull crud out of where ever it is hiding.

I think I may have really done it now.

It won't start at all.

Sad!

Before I say uncle and call the engine repair place, any suggestions?

p.s. It does have a manual choke, I have played with it both when stalling and now to get it started.

Can you take the spark plug out and see if it's wet?

Um . . . before you book your trip . . . you have to realize he left out the sea-sickness part. A significant downer.

If I ever Everested, it would be on a car-free course. That's all I gotta say.

Maybe a gravel Everesting would be nice.

Done. Dry.

Tried again and not starting. I am pretty close to getting someone to fix it.

My mom called and asked how I am, I told her I am futzing with the snow blower. Her suggestion? Buy a new one.
