Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's hot

I had to do it. I would never buy a bottle of super-hot hot sauce, but I am curious enough that throwing in a mini bottle with each purchase was enough to push me over the edge.

Heaven help me.

For those not in the know, Hot Ones is a Youtube interview show wherein the guests (and host) eat increasingly spicy wings as the show progresses (it's actually a very good series). The Last Dab is the last and hottest of the sauces. Anyway, mentioning the chamois reminded me of the host's warning "careful around the eyes!" which needs to be said way more often than it should.

When my Mom got shingles, she was prescribed some sort of topical capsaicin. IIRC it depletes the nerve endings of Substance P, so they stop sending "OUCH!" messages up the chain.

Her other experience with topical capsaicin was the yearly stringing of hot chiles Dad grew in the garden. Had to be REALLY careful about not poking her eyes.

when I had my “day job” consulting business, I contemplated buying a 4-axis CNC to start a second small business building and selling wood crafts. It turned out, after a good market research, the best bet of quickly self funding that business was to crank out all types of fire arm stocks. Have to admit had a bit of inner conflict. Just around the same time, current job offer came in and I decided to cal quits on both small businesses.

still wish I could’ve had the woodworking business though.

Yeah, I can understand the reservations. Fortunately, I'm not under much pressure to quickly be profitable, so I wouldn't need to do anything disagreeable... like churn out cutting boards.

Well, well, well - I *do* like a silver lining.

The other day, I was miffed about the LWWS not having a Jessem router table fence in stock, although their online inventory indicated otherwise. While I was there, though, I noticed that SawStop, another manufacturer with a great (and expensive) reputation, was offering what appeared to be the same fence with a couple minor differences. I assumed that the fence was made for SS by Jessem and was more expensive. In looking around today, I see that it's actually less expensive... significantly so, which makes it probably one of the best deals in a good router table fence. No one local has them in stock, either, but I was able to place an order and I should have it towards the end of next week. Sweet.

Yeah, 4-axis CNCs are expensive . Not astronomical like the metal churning vertical milling centers, but still expensive enough that I would have liked to pay it off in about a year.

Too much work for a cutting board unless he’s charging somewhere in the vicinity of 2-3 benjamins for one. Aaand, he could have shaved some clean up work had he used a V-groove bit, for the inset.

Not getting my wheel back for the Seven, LBS guy couldn't find a rim (Open Pro) so I found one at another store and drove out there to get it. Turns out I know a guy who works there and it's a huge store. Since they are a BMC dealer I asked about a Roadmachine. They had 2 in my size, one was about $10K and the other $8K.

I asked how long to get the lower grade frame with 105 parts and he said it might be 2 or 3 months.
