Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Strange. Most of those things make you shaky. Bad for darts.

I would say way bad for darts. Billiards is on the list too, if I remember right. Formula 1 as well.

I, OTOH, am NOT a decent climber, so I'll be happy as pigs in **** if I can do it in <25 minutes. It's late March, and I figure I've got all summer. There's no training for climbing better than climbing.

I should really go see the doc. I keep waiting for it to get better and sometimes it feels like it is. Today I rode for 3 hours and did a bunch of climbing. Felt fine without Albuterol but when I got home not so good.

Solid century today. I hope to get one in next weekend if the wife isn’t sick from shot 2 still.

My father was on prednisone for a long, long time for RA and was cranky most of the time. He was having some minor surgery one time and had to go off of it for a few days. I took him to his surgery and I hadn't seen him so congenial for years. We stopped for breakfast afterwards and he was chatting up the waitress and cracking jokes. It was amazing.

The next day, I drove him to a post surgery check up and almost had to carry him to the car. He looked like he had aged 20 years and could hardly move, joints all swollen in his fingers, etc. Within a few days of being back on the prednisone, he looked more normal and was back to his cranky self.

Does the ultegra 6500 front derailer have trim settings for all three chain rings? Shifted onto the big chain ring today and the chain was rubbing bad on the front derailer. It would rub on all the cogs (not cross chaining). I tried trimming it but the shifter didn’t have any more clicks. If I held pressure on it I could get it to stop rubbing.

My ride was disappointingly slow, but I the last couple of hours were a slog, primarily because of the conditions ******g wind. I remember looking at my mileage-to-go and the clock, thinking about making it home by the time I'd told my wife I'd be back. "Oh, easy - I only need average 14mph to get home in 90 minutes. I'll probably get home early." Then I looked down at my computer and saw that I was doing 14mph. Yup - all of my remaining 5 minute lap notifications came in at about 20-21 minutes and I got home just in time.

That said, while my fitness has certainly dropped from the high-volume days of last summer/fall, I wasn't completely unhappy with where I'm at. I think I'll be good once the weather and daylight lets me get in some daily miles.

Good question, I don't know. If you don't get an answer here it's reasonable to ask in the regular forum. The brains for trim are in the shifter, so verify you are using the 6500 series front shifter?

Thats a good point. I am actually guessing it is 6500, not completely sure on that either. Googled ultegra 9 speeds and that seems to be the most popular. Looks pretty similar if not the same.

I'm so tired of the wind. Most weekdays I've been starting work around 5-5:30 so I can bag off for a couple of hours at lunch to get a ride in, but with another strong wind day, I might say screw it. Friday on a downhill I normally get to 35ish before the bottom, I was being pushed so hard by the wind I was going nine. It also seems, no matter which direction I head, it's a headwind.

It's that special time of the year when people start putting up big rides and I regret not putting in work over the winter. I can't imagine spending more than 3 hours on a bike right now without considering the amount of pain that would cause.

I've made peace with the wind maybe twice. This windy spell has been particularly annoying because all I want to do is ride my track bike but I also have zero desire to grind into more than 5-10mph of wind.

Mine has 4 positions, not exactly trim for each ring, but can be used as such. Sounds like you need more cable tension to me.
