Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not surprising - my wife told me that her co-worker did the same (but this was two weeks ago, so they must have been in a slightly higher risk category). I also checked with some of the smaller cities, outside of the MSP metro but within 75 miles or so, and didn't see anything there, either.

Keep checking. My wife helped him last night and they were able to get something 3 miles from his house.

The one that gets me is the letter "C" being misconstrued as "width in millimeters".

I believe BBs are part of the "if it ain't broke, let's fix it 'til it is" plan.

I'm waiting for the next super alloy to be developed out that's lighter and stiffer than current large hollow spindles, but optimized for use in a square taper format.

With a new proprietary taper, of course.

I always thought "C" meant clincher. What does it really stand for??

edit: looks like it's the survivor of the old French "A/B/C" system. C for Clincher could be a backronym.

Interesting modern backronym is the expression "simp" which traditionally was short for simpleton.

Now the kids say it stands for something else that is NSFW, but the overall meaning is pretty much the same.

That's what I figured. Was supposed to get it Monday, but they just moved the clinic to Saturday morning instead. I guess I'll probably do something shorter instead.

Sucks because this week seems to be a washout.

We're supposed to be going to my inlaws for Easter dinner Sunday too, that's probably out as well.

Yep. The number is the overall diameter of the wheel, but different letters correspond to different tire widths/heights. As the tire gets bigger the rim gets smaller.

You still see some of it out there, especially with some older tri bikes using 650C (571mm) and the recent resurgence of 650B (584mm) wheels. This is a case of things not following the original trend because 650C is typically the domain of skinny tires, but even fat bikes are using the 650B rim size nowadays.

Ever heard of 700D? It's just a wee bit smaller than 650B - previously used by GT on some selected hybrid bikes.
