what was wrong with your drivetrain?

I messed something up when I put new chain on. Shifted PEFFECTLY in the stand. But on the road was finicky, would not downshift properly, I had to click twice down then one up to shift, which is only a minor annoyance. But chain would also “stutter” under severe load like when standing in hills. So I sat for entire ride. There could be a slightly sticky or twisted link on new chain. So far all I checked was indexing back in stand and of course now works perfectly. I am open to suggestions.

Eliminate unnecessary shifting.

Bite me, mousie. Lots of ups and downs around here. Did almost 6k climbing on 55 mile ride. Not feasible on a SS. Frequent shifting is necessary.

How worn is your cassette? If I switch chains often, I can get three new chains from a cassette. If I neglect switching chains, lucky to get two chains of cassette wear

I say cassette too.

WhyFi 01-13-21 04:43 PM

Ha. According to Strava, and as of today, I'm ahead of pace for my default 4k mile yearly goal. Given that whole winter thing, I usually don't catch my pace until late summer, so this is easily the earliest.

I think cassette has only 5k miles but I could be thinking of cassette on other bike. Will make sure chain not kinked but easy check is swap wheels with other bike and see if that solves the problem. Too tired to mess with it now.

Could a worn cable cause datlas problems? If it’s not the cassette?

Was happy where I was for Jan, until I did math and realized I am way off for my end goal. I can make up some miles in the summer but not all of them. I’ll have to htfu the rest of the winter. Riding with Lily will help too.

Don't ask, assert positively, whether or not you have the slightest clue what you're talking about! This is BF! I've read all kinds of stuff on the internet about how to fly planes.

That was my first thought too, by the way.

Got my adjustable dumbbells last week. I am too ashamed to mention the negligible amount of weight I'm squatting and the utter waste it has laid to my legs.

What's the goal for the year? I'm still undecided on mine. 6k miles, at least, I think, but if the kid actually gets back to school full time, that might be a stretch. I wanted to do the power goals, but the whole not wanting to go to a gym during a pandemic thing isn't helping.

I skip reading online now. YouTube is easier.

Possible. Will put on list of possibilities.

7500. Last year was 5000 but I didn’t have a bike for about 2 months.

I think that 8k would realistic for me if the boy didn't have to get up and go to school so early - having to get him to the bus stop before 7am really puts a damper on things. I mean, I don't mind waking up early, but I'm not setting my alarm for 5am.

I've got a lot of those, too. Not all of them are problems.

abshipp 01-13-21 05:50 PM

I'm apparently 45 miles behind, but I think the goal is set for 2000.

I hit 3k last year without too much trouble but who knows what this year will bring.

I wake up between 5 am and 530 am but when it’s cold and dark it takes me sometime to get going. I need to be better at that. The later I start the less time I have especially when Lily has to work.

Every time I've set a mileage goal for myself, something goes wrong, so I'm pretty gun shy about setting cycling goals. I pleasantly surprised myself by doing just shy of 3000 miles last year.
