Good biking begins north of Highway 7... all the way up to Simcoe using McCowan/Kennedy/Warden...
Seriously... WAAAY too congested elsewhere...

^ Like what? major mac? where it is 80km/hr? Rutherford? A bit conjested when you get near wonderland. There is a street Dufferin and gamble(which is hilly but deserted and you can go 80 km/hr no problem no cops around.

GORE ROAD is nice and Hilly North of Highway7. Once you clear Caledon East, there are lots of Hills right up through Alliston.

Just take one of those streets I mentioned north... On weekends you'll see groups of 5 cars pass you; very little... A lot of cyclists though ^^

Elgin Mills E is SOLID from Markham Rd to 404; it's short I know but there are no cars, nothing, nada - just farm land ... A bit hilly, but nothing you can't handle

Can anyone recomment a route from central Toronto up to Jacksons Point on Lake SImcoe. By the map, it looks like I could take Leslie St all the way, but I have never riddent Leslie so don't know what it's like.

Hey Bluejaydata,

Don't know where you start from, but check out some of the ravines: Humber River is good, Tayor Park, Sunnybrook. No cars, just pedstrians dogs and squirrels to watch out for.

I like to do a big loop we call "river to river". Starting at Bathurst/Eglinton head west to Humber trail, down to the lake, east to the Don trail, up to Sunnybook and exit the trail system there. It's about 55km and I would say 75% is paved trails.

Leslie should be okay... But just know that Don Mills becomes Leslie after Steeles... or something of that nature... I've never gone up through Leslie ON Leslie after Steeles..
Bathurst is nice because they have a bike lane...
Bayview is nice too, north of Steeles...

Choose your route. Either way, it'll be fun, yeah?

i've done leslie st to lake simcoe (georgina). it's a nice ride. you ride through newmarket or whatever that city is that's north of toronto.. streets were relatively un-busy and there are some real nice stretches. when you get there it's fun too.

i usually take bayview ave. up north to either bloomington/elgin mills/van dorf side rd/any of these, then go east to leslie, adn then north all the way on leslie.

there and back from around yonge/finch is a nice metric century or so.

i don't like the west of yonge st. bike riding. but in that area, you go north on either keele, jane, or weston. north of major mac and rutherford another 10km. then u hit king st etc. some stretches are real nice, some not so nice. hilly as you head west to bolton.

i prefer north on bayview up to bloomington/elgin mills, and east. all of that area is good quiet riding.

Anyone ride from Toronto to Wasaga and what route would you take Hwy 27? How long would a ride take if wind is from the north?

Well, I guess I shouldn't complain about the weather, since it has been great all summer. But today (Sunday) it's been damp and raining all day and it doesn't look like I'll be able to get a ride in.

At least it's good for the grass!

I didn't go riding either today. I had plans of potentially doing 100K or so but with the lightening this morning and the potential for more this aft, I decided that I can wait until tomorrow (the advantages of not having to teach on Mondays during the summer). I just wish it'd lift some of this humidity with all this rain..

Eh.. haven't fully decided. I'm a bit of a wanderer... Today I did 70K by biking from downtown (Sherbourne/Dundas) to Clarkson (Mississauga) then back to Sam's Club in Etobicoke (good thing I have big Ortliebs but definately want to get a Burley one day for these trips) and then back to downtown.

Maybe I'll do downtown to Oakville or something like that and back or out to Clarkson then up Dixie (that's the road I took to get to Toronto from Everett a couple of Sundays ago and I noticed quite a few cyclists on it).
