Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had my first race

I have only been riding for 6 months. Today I had my first ever timed race it was 40 miles of rolling hills with some flatland. I came in 133 out of somewhere around 175 possibly more. I rode it in 2 hrs 14 mins. Averaged 17.4 mph. My highlight was hooking up with 5 others with about 12 miles to go and I lead them at least 8 miles. We were in the flats and we ran around 25 mph.(mostly in the rain) I had 2 of them thank me for pulling them. At 250 lbs I have a bunch of weight to loose so I can pull those hills better. My cycling partner rode it in 1 hour 51 mins and came in 51st. The winner was Brad Price who also came in second on the assault on Mt. Mitchell. His time was 1 hour 38 mins and 21 seconds. Even though I got blew away I had a great time.

I think thats a good time for 40 miles. If you keep that up, you will probably lose weight..
