Axel Merckx at a young age

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When your dad is Eddy Merckx, the training-wheels bike has dropped bars:

How cute! He looks like he's rarin' to go, training wheels and all! I love how the older boy is pulling a trackstand and watching his brother.

I saw a photo a while back of some junior velo racers--probably 8-9 years old, I would guess, and they were so adorable on their little, miniaturized track bikes.

A far cry from the hefty old banana-seat cruiser I used to hoon around on when I was a little kid.

Axel looks a lot like Eddy... same smile. Totally different build and hair color, but strong resemblance.

I saw a photo of Mariano Basso, Ivan's father. He looks just like his father!
