Cycling with no top on?
It's getting near to the season where we get the best weather of the year in Scotland and that means I'll be having to soak up as much sun as possible in order to have a chance of maintaining a sick tan.
What are your thoughts on road cycling on a hot sunny day without a top on? As in complete exposure of the torso. Of course this would be with non-bib shorts, since I don't want to look like a fruit cake :p. |

In my experience, most people who parade around without shirts are precisely the people who should cover themselves up.
|
|
The one time I decided to ride without a shirt, many decades ago, was on a blazingly sunny day, on a four-plus-hour ride. And me with my Black Irish graveyard pallor. The next day or two were unpleasant.
Moral of the story: if you do it, use plenty of sun block, and be prepared to slather yourself with greasy skin cream for a day or two afterward. Or, better still, don't do it. |
My thoughts are that I always use my jersey pockets so that alone would be a reason against.

Get yourself one of these and make sure it is big enough to go over your helmet. Cut out the holes to make it functional. Or, get a Speedo, aero helmet and some clip on aero bars. People will think you're a trigeek training for Ironman BlahBlah 2021. Either way, you might still need the bag. They'll be laughing and pointing when they see the lobster sunburn.

No one wants to see me with my shirt off. Easy call.
|
There is a local rider I see around here from time to time. Probably 50+, dreads down to the middle of his back, riding vintage equip., doesn't wear cycling clothes, never wears a helmet and rides without a shirt in the warmer months. I've talked to him a couple of times. Nice guy, just marches to the beat of a different drummer.
|
I find that my position on my bike isn't a good position for tanning anyway. You'll get burned or just tanned on shoulders and neck, maybe forearms. So you'll look like a any how.
|
Re: sick tans. You mean sick as in skin cancer? Tan is the enemy, man.
|
It’s your choice, but informed sources suggest to not do it.

Live fast, die young. am I right? Being a young man, I've still not got a whiff of old age and resultant fear of death. I think topless on my vintage steed is the perfect look for gliding effortlessly past the pasty shaved legged middle agers around where I live. It takes work to keep Scotland high on the leader board for skin cancer you know.
? where you looking for someone to actually say "Yes thats an awesome idea"? |
Please God, tell me this is about Cervelos and Flip flops

Wear Speedos and no socks as well so you can pretend you are a triathlete.
