Anyone ride RAIN?
 

Just got back from the Ride Across Indiana. Anyone ride this? Just looking for general conversation. What was good and not so good.

Personally had a great time. Weather was decent and made some new friends. This is my second year riding this event.

I'll be doing it next year. I watched a couple hundred people ride along as I ate breakfast around Madison Ave. and Thompson road on Indy's southside.

The weather was good- not too hot and not much sun. I ran into a little rain around the last rest stop, but I like riding in the rain so it didn't bother me.

The rest stops were great. 4 was plenty and they weren't too far apart. They also had a great variety of food. You can't beat 4 good stops, a shirt, a place to shower, and all the other perks for a mere $35.

I can't wait for next year. Do you know of any similar rides in the Midwest?

Sounds like fun. I grew up in southeastern IN and still have some family there and wouldn't mind coming back to do RAIN at some point. Congrats to those who participated!

I'm in on the Hilly Hundred this year...hopefully RAIN next year.

Mike_Like_Bike has almost got me talked into doing the Hilly Hundred. Wish I had done RAIN this year. Maybe next time.

Oh and, Trekke, what did you find good and not so good about RAIN? Was a fairly flat route, yes?

I would love to do the hilly this year, but I am scheduled to be out of town in conferences for two weeks in the Northeast (Baltimore, DC and Providence) including the weekend of the hilly.

Good - Great rest stops and support. Great accomplishment. People were just super fun.

Bad - was disapointed at the number of trash pieces left on the route by bikers such as empty Power Bar wrappers and empty Gue containers. The bananna peals I don't have much problem with because the critters gotta eat too. There was a police escourt out of town to get the group out of town quickly through all the red lights. Well, I was in the middle of the pack and the escourt was long gone before I got to the red lights. Guess they just let the fast guys through and to heck with the other 1000 riders. Also south of Indy the roads were terrible.

The route is relatively flat with some hills as soon as you leave Terre Haute and before Centerville. But nothing bad. Weather was great. Can't wait till next year.

Dropped the car in Richmond on Friday and departed for Terre Haute with a friend. Had tail winds in the morning, still winds for most of the day, and slight headwinds the last bit before Terre Haute. Got in at 3:30 -- plenty of time to get recharged before the ride on Saturday. Had a great (and surprisingly fast!) ride on Saturday. This was one of the best organized rides I've ever done; everything runs like clockwork, and the popsicles at the 4th stop ROCK. No real complaints -- in nearly 340 miles of riding, we encountered only one jackass driver. You never get a ratio that good in Ohio.... :rolleyes:
