Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Knew a metal worker over in Elgin Texas that banged out an insert/orthotic in the contour of his foot out of heavy gauge aluminum. He inserted it into his boots when doing long rides on his horse. It was the full length of his foot. Horse riders have the same foot problems that bike riders have when it comes to foot placement. Most orthotics are made to accommodate walking but bike riders and equine riders don't need walking mobility. They need full length support especially if ridding on the toes. The term "Full Sulcus Support" is what its called. Orthotics are expensive. I have often considered a Full Sulcus Rigid Orthotic that could be removed from my bike shoes to walk. That would allow me to use just about any type of shoe in that I still use cages. I would like to bang one out of aluminum but for now I thinking just fiberglass. I would make it RIGID and full length of the shape below. I would i insert it for a ride then remove it for walking...

Stripped from the net common image of flexible insert.
