Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd love a carbon bike, just can't afford one and am not willing to buy a crappy no-brand one.

I heard Prince Phillip was going to rise up from the grave and take his revenge on the world. Maybe that's what this thread is.

Best and most recent review on Amazon about what he bought:

I BOUGHT THIS BIKE AND PUT 20 MILES ON IT THE CHAIN GOT BEND AND THE DERAILLEUR BROKE
THE MANUFACTURER SENT ME NEW PART FROM CHINA
VERY LOW PRICE LOOKS NICE, BUT THE COMPONENTS ARE 1970 AND LOW QUALITY.
I DID FALL FROM THE BIKE DURIN GHE ASSEMBLY PROCESS.
FOR PUTTING IT IN THE GARAGE AND LOOKING ON IT ITS OK, BUT NOT FOR RIDING. IT CAN BE EVEN A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE COMPONENTS ARE SO LOW QUALITY.
BETTER SPEND MORE MONEY ON A BETTER BIKE
IF YOU WANT A STREET BIKE GET A BETTER ONE. SOLD IT ON CRAIGSLIST AND DID GO IN A STORE A BOUGHT ENTRANCE BIKE WITH SERVICE AND WARRANTY FOR $ 100 MORE..

...but it's okay for looking at.

You have to hand it to the design team at Eurobike.

aside from carbon fiber wheel failure and feeling sorry for the 2 riders who went down and probably got injured, I've never seen this type of bicycle. I've seen a "double" bicycle or whatever you call it, where husband and wife ride it on the street, or parent and child, at some distance from each other. where two guys in spandex sit so close to each other that the guy behind is breathing into his behind...i've never seen a sport like this. i would never be interested in this type of cycling, unless the cyclist upfront was Pamela Anderson in her prime

Wow, videos of pros on cutting edge equipment experiencing failures. That should never happen. But it does - race cars and boats experience mechanical and electronic failures, sailboats have masts that fall and keels that come off, skiers have poles that break, surfers get hit in the head with their boards, bats break in baseball, and on and on.

Anything can fail when pushed to the limit. But, the odds of that happening are pretty remote. More people crash because they don't unclip their pedals than from carbon frames assploading.

It is a tandem sprint bike. They are probably putting out over 4,000 watts combined. The tire blew up, that caused the wheel to fail.

I'm gonna say this gently: you have no idea what you're saying. But, please, go on, this is entertaining.

Please explain the material science and/or physics behind this, preferably without reference to any car chases or spike strips.

197 posts and counting. Questioning carbon fibre seems to be the golden ticket around here if post counts are the goal. The OP even pulled initial post yet it lives on.

You don't have enough knowledge or experience to make those kinds of judgements. I also find it interesting that in your other thread, you have expressed concern about the aluminum wheels on your new bike failing.

You do get that pros ride carbon wheels. At high speeds. Down twisty mountain descents. Right?

Question for anyone other than the OP:

When was the last time you heard of a rider in the pro peloton experiencing anything even approaching what the OP is talking about? I definitely can't come up with anything. Only CF wheel failure that immediately comes to mind in the last decade is when Cav's front wheel (was it Cav's?) got turned, causing it to buckle and basically highside him. But at the speed they were going, I don't think any wheel was going to withstand that change in lateral load.
