Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

cycling shoes

I've been training quite consistently for a couple of months with my running shoes on just regular flat pedals.
is there a lot of time to be gained if i bought cycling shoes and pedals? will the work on my hamstrings hurt my run since i havent trained with them all this time?

assume i can ride at 20mi/hr(average) for 60min. how much faster in your experience could someone get with the shoe being the variable?

Huge, big difference. ~25%

You lose a lot of power through flexy shoes, one you ride an hour in cycling shoes, you'll never go back. It shouldn't affect your hamstrings.

you will become more efficient with your pedal stroke. It will be a hell of alot more comfortable. Speed will depend on the engine. Seems like you have a pretty good engine. Good Luck.

Cycling shoes with cleats will make you more efficient. The efficiency is most important when climbing or sprinting and it also helps your endurance. Cycling shoes are also more comfortable on long rides since the soles don't flex and pinch your soles like sneakers do.
