Shimano Rd6800 change cage/cassette to GS and 32T

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano Rd6800 change cage/cassette to GS and 32T

My wife has a 44cm Trek Silque with Shimano RD6800 rear derailleur with a short cage and 28T. She'd like to up it to 11-32, changing out the cage to the long version - GS, the cassette to 32T and the chain. Does that make sense? Or does she really have to replace the entire rear derailleur?

Perfect, thank you. One more question, there's always one more. Since the cage is going to be larger and the additional teeth will be 4, is there a way to figure out how many additional links to add?
